Unhappy cost of PCOS testing without insurance..?

so i haven't had insurance for awhile now and i had gone to Planned Parenthood for an exam and the nurse there had given me a list of clinics in the area to go get bloodwork to determine if i actually have PCOS. the clinics that i called are saying i am not eligable to go there so now i am stuck. i want to get this bloodwork so i can actually have answers to the things that have been going on with my body. does anyone know how much it costs for the PCOS tests so maybe i can just go to a doctor and pay for the tests on my own.

My initial labs were just denied by my insurance and I am shoked at how much those labs cost. We’re going to recode and resubmit since the actual purpose of those labs was to diagnosis PCOS/irregular cycles and not infertility and that should take care of the issue... I sure hope so because those labs were expensive and we just don‘t have that money lying around. My appt was denied but resubmitted and pending, ultrasound was coded correctly and covered.

The cost of living where we are located is a little high so I’m not sure if that affects the lab costs or not but here is what the initial diagnostic testing cost without insurance...

Doctor’s Appointment........ $110.00
Blood work ..................... $996.84
Ultrasound...................... $315.00

Maybe it differs by area or drs might charge a different rate for paying in cash... it wouldn't hurt to call around.

So far I am 123$ from a dr who charged the insurance with the wrong diagnosis code and would not change it for me.
Also, I thought I would have insurance for the appointment I just went to on the 10th and come to find out I don't think I did/do. I don't even want to know how much it's going to cost me. I still need to get the labs done, I'm really anxious about getting them done soon so I can get everything taken care of.

To do all the testing that was needed, lab work, ultrasounds, etc. It cost me a little over $2000.00. I wish I would have waited until I got insurance

Angry yep...bout a G

My last RE ran a panel of thyroid, DHEA, testosterone, estrogen, progesterone, liver enzymes (prep for met), and basic bloodwork and the total before insurance touched it was $900 just for blood. A lot of un or under-insured cysters have gotten their metformin from Walmart for $4, but you have to have liver tests done periodically.

I'm not sure where you live, but look into going to a local health department or rural health clinic. In 2006, my husband's company went on strike, and we lost our health insurance. I went to a local rural health clinic that based care (and bloodwork) on your income. That's one of the best ways to get health care, because it's pretty affordable, and you'll be able to get the care you need without breaking the bank.
