I started running in July (late) of 04. I was supposed to do my first 5k that labor day weekend...I was more than ready...
I had emergency surgery days b4 the race.
6-8 weeks after that I did my first race, a 10k. After being opened up 14 inches and 40 staples!
With that said...I joined a marathon training group and voila! I did the Chicago Marathon in 05.
If I can do it, so can you...

I started todAY!!! I have the c 2 5k podcasts and today I did week one. Planning on doing it again on Monday, and then Thursday.
Feels so good to be so sweaty!!!
Welsh - what an amazing routine!! so does 90 mean 90 min. of exercise a day? right now I am getting around 45 min a day. Plus I walk or bike back and forth to work. I am thinking of really trying to be more aggresive. I am at my highest weight right now, and am having a lot of emotional stuff going on, and I feel like it might be time to transform. What do you eat on an average day? Are you following the recipes in the book?

Redd: Glad you are with us. You can do this. We can go at our own pace. And remember that we can repeat any week that we need to until we feel ready to move on.
Nina: The "90" in Bootcamp is 90 Days. (You can see our threads on the board here for each of the weeks so far.) But, yes, I am getting in about 90 minutes a day, often more. I'm aiming for 2 hours a day. For the bootcamp, we are doing a minimum of 60 mins, and 25% of our time has to be strength training. My goal is an hour in the a.m. and an hour in the p.m., though often it ends up being more like 45 mins in the morning and 90 ish in the evening. It's been a lot of work, but so exciting to feel my fitness level rising.
Congrats on your run this morning. How was it for you? I'll be heading out tomorrow morning for another Week One run.

Wow. I would love to build up to that. I am struggling to find time/energy. My job is very draining. My allergies act up. Oh I am sorry, am I whining? Well, I hate this pcos stuff. Every few months I have a really hard time with it. But then I learn how to cope again...

For me the 90 days of intense workouts has been an experiment, in a sense. I felt like I'd tried so many things -- diets, half-baked attempts exercise etc, all the while feeling like I hated my body, and being ticked off about PCOS. I wanted to see what would happen if I really gave it EVERYTHING I had for the 90 days. I figured if nothing changed, then at least I could say "see, nothing works". But I knew, in the back of my mind that 100% effort would give me results. So I'm finding the time for the workouts. Some days it's harder than others, and I've found myself on the treadmill at 5:30 a.m, or 10:00 pm. more than a few times. But it IS working. I honestly feel better than I can remember feeling in a really long time. And my body is changing.
I still have room to clean up my diet. Now that I have the exercise going well, I'm going to take more time looking at my menu planning, and eating a cleaner diet.
I'm just so glad to be around positive ladies, like you all on this thread, and Bootcamp, who are pushing each other to do things that challenge our bodies and minds. I'm really excited about running, and conquering the 5K.

I had tried to start the C25K--and it kicked my butt!! I might try how one of u had suggested instead of doing the jogging do power walking instead--it seemed like it took me forever to catch my breath and then when i finally did it was time to jog again!!! But being as big as i am i think i need to tweak it some to make it more comfy for me!! Hopefully I'll be able to stick with it! So im in!!!

Gem...if you can't catch your breathe you may be running too fast.
Are you breathing in a pattern?
Ex-I breathe on my left foot every 2 counts...
Some peeps do 3 or 4...
I'm also a mouth breather...I can't get enough through my nose...
Personally, I think power walking is HARDER than jogging, but I may be the odd one out...
Try a few of these tricks and see how you feel

OMG, breathing in a pattern helped me SOOOOOO much. Also, I run to music, and run to the beat. That way I don't run too fast or too slowly. Every week or so, I just speed the music up a bit as I get stronger.
(I run the music through MixMeister. It's a free download that allows you to change the speed of music, without distorting the vocals or music.)
You can literally plug in any bpm you want, and the software will change the music for you, and then output it to a file for you to put on your iPod.

Is there a link you have? That would be GREAT for spin!

Thanks for the tips on breathing, tither. I need to try focussing on that. I've just been getting as much air in at any time I can. LOL.
And Kat, I remember you mentioning that site before. I really should try that. Now that I have an mp3, and am getting some playlists together, that soulds really good.
Does anyone have a good earphone suggestions. I have some cheapo ones that came with my mp3, and they fall out of my ears all the time when I'm trying to run. Not cool.

I prefer the ones that hook over my ears...all other ones fall out. Annoys me to no end...

I did Week 3 today! And... I didn't DIE, lol! I even did some extra reps for fun. I have a feeling my legs and butt are going to be sore tomorrow but it's ok, I had fun.
I never did find the right earphones for me, still looking. THe ear buds fall out, the ones that hook over broke, so I'm stuck with some old school ones with foam for now. They're totally nasty though, the foam gets all sweaty and I can't even fathom the kind of germs are hanging out in them... Blech. I'll be searching again soon.

Way to go with wk 3 Vanessa. How long are the running intervals on that week (not that I couldn't just look it up)? I have one more Wk 1 run left (tomorrow morning), then I'm on to week 2.
I have to hunt for some earphones this week that I like. I feel like I have my hands up at my ears, sticking the darn things back in half the time I'm running. Must look pretty dorky, it sure is annoying.

I use the ones like ear buds, but have a loop that goes over my ears...those pesky little bugs fall out if they aren't "anchored"
Vanessa...eeeeeeeww...get thee to target!
