Redd, I bet one of the more experienced runners will have an idea for you.
But I wouldn't worry about what the speed is, just run at a speed you can manage for the running interval. I am going really slowly sometimes, when it comes time to run. But I'm moving. My run looks more like a shuffle at some moments I suspect. But I think the idea is to go at the speed that allows you to get through the 60 seconds, or whatever you amount of time is.

I did this program and am about 2/3 of the way through. It is WONDERFUL! I was super surprised by how quickly my body was able to transition. I am 5'5" and weighted 210 when I started. I am now down to 198 and crave running. I am to the point where I could finish a 5K and now am focused on improving my time.
I KNOW you ladies can do this. I'm so proud of you all for sticking together.

Glad you are feeling better Vanessa. Sorry you were sick!
I am on week 3, but should be in week 4. I've gotten off the schedule a bit. I have been running, but to my own intervals, and I don't think that is the best idea for me. I was doing the program, but the podcasts I was downloading weren't doing it for me. So I'd switch to my own music and try to time my run/walks. Hasn't worked well. I am running through most of a song each time, so it's working out to about 3:30-4 min runs, then walking recovery for about 2. I need to sit down and spend some time putting together a good, timed playlist, or take the darned stopwatch with me!
But the good thing is that I am runnning. I just haven't used the structure of the training sched for a few weeks.

Thanks welshgirl.
I actually am having to start over again. I started again on yesterday and I was able to do the full 20 mins alternating 60sec running. On the treadmill I'm trying to keep my speed at 4.5 on a 1.5 incline for now. I want to get outside and run, but for now I think the treadmill is easier on my knees. But I do plan to get outside asap.
Congrats to you all!!

I'm reduced to running random intervals at night. Kids won't let me use the treadmill during the day . At least I'm getting outside, no kids, exercising. Honestly, it's a relief after 10 hours of being cooped up. My Boxer loves it too!

I last signed in to this site on 2/12/07. EKK! Have I been away that long? My body stopped making hormones again and it was a rediculous trek to try to docs to give me any...all the while that I was away and had no energy I kept thinking about this site and one woman who managed her PCOS/weight by running. I haven't run since I was in junior high so I didn't think I could do it...anyway...started working with a personal trainer and told her I didn't want to focus on weight loss since I knew it would upset me...instead let's focus on fitness...'I want to run a 5k.'
I started in May. The first day I ran 2 minutes and wanted to die. lol... 6 wks in and taking it slow I am now up to 13 minutes of straight running. WHICH IS HUGE FOR ME! I dragged hubby to the gym yesterday and noticed something that makes me more successful....the treadmills come on and say.... 20 percent completed!! 40 percent completed...etc... THAT motivates me to keep going and not to quit...but looking at the time (I don't look at that anymore) makes me want to quit.
I am still trying to learn ways to talk myself out of stopping as I build up my time...
Have a great day...looking forward to chatting with you!
(would love to lose 50 pounds too)

Heck, I can start tonight! LOL. I have the podcasts on my mp3, and I'm working out a.m and p.m, so it's just a matter of hitting play and moving my feet. Ready when you are! I'll pop on over to fitcysters and check out the group.
Gonna graduate from the couch to 5 k this time!
