Default Could I have hypothyroidism?

So, obviously I have PCOS, and I just found out you have a higher likelihood of having hypothyroidism if you have PCOS. I am on 1500mg Metformin and Yaz. Lately, my symptoms have seemed worse, the mood swings, the weight, hair growth...

For at least 6 weeks, I have gone from running 3 miles once a week to running the 3 miles once or twice a week and doing 20-45 minutes of cardio 3-5 times a week and lifting light weights while sitting here at the computer reading. I cut out all pop and almost all fried foods (have french fries maybe once every 2 weeks) and started drinking lots of water. I am working on switching to 100% whole grain breads and giving up all the candy I eat (I have had much much less this week). So far, I have seen no results and my tummy feels so bloated and fat (it is period week, but I don't recall it being this bad!). I don't really have a lot of fatigue, just in the morning, but I only sleep 6 hours. On my days off though, I sleep 8-10 and wake up groggy. Lately, I haven't been able to run 3 miles without stopping like I used to, don't know if thats the heat or something else.

My mom has hypothyroidism and I'm pretty sure my sister with PCOS has it also, but undiagnosed. Do you think I might have it?

I have a gyno appt. on Thursday and I am going to ask her about it. I already asked for blood work to see how my testosterone levels, cholesterol, etc. are doing.

Yes, unfortunatly a lot of women with PCOS also have hypothyroidism. Based upon what you have described it doesn't really give any indication that you have it, BUT that doesn't mean you don't. Your blood work will tell you for sure.

You need to have your TSH checked and that will be able to tell you if you have it or not. I would suggest going to your family doctor for this, it isn't something that your gyno really would deal with.

Here is a pretty cool checklist to check out. http://thyroid.about.com/cs/basics_s...ochecklist.htm

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism about two months ago. My dad also has it as does several other family members. My hypothyroid symptoms were: weight gain, low sex drive, dry and thining hair, puffy face, mild depression, thin brittle nails, irregular menstral cycle, high blood pressure, extreme fatigue, muscle cramps and aches, headaches, irratibility, and low body temp. I know I've had it for years and just was misdiagnosed.

Best of luck with your results!!

My hair is not thinning (I've always had this thin area at the front, but its not getting thinner), but it has been pretty dry and my nails are always breaking pretty easily. I don't know if the dry hair is due to the water difference at my new place compared to my old or not. I have been pretty down lately, but its only down about my weight.

I can't tell if my body temp is low or not because its been over 90 for over a month here! Haha. Some of these symptoms are difficult to tell I think. I checked around 9-10 in the middle section. It just seems that some of these symptoms line up with PCOS symptoms.

I don't have a family doc since I just moved to a new area, but maybe I will look up an endocrinologist instead.

Default Helppppp Newbie?

I have been having irregular periods, hair growth, weight gain, constipation for years. Finally I was agressive enough to go to a doc that ordered labs. She stated that my hormone levels indiciate that I likely have PCOS.The doctor noted on my results that my glucose & chelesterol results are good however there was consern with my soduim, TSH and free t4. My ultrasound stated that it shows no acute problem but in the notes it says "multiple follicles present bilaterally."

sodium: 134
free t4-0.67
tsh 0.69

Can someone help interpret.
