I never knew PCOS existed until I was already pregnant. I have a lot of the symptoms of PCOS (hair on body, hair on head falling out, weight around the middle, skin tags, sleepiness after eating carbs). Last year I went on the Atkins Diet and lost weight before I knew about PCOS. While I was on the diet, I stopped taking my birth control pils. Within eight weeks of stopping the pills, I was pregnant. Is this normal for someone with PCOS? I haven't talked with my GYN about PCOS yet. I was waiting until after my son was born. There is also a RE in the area now. Should I go to the RE or my GYN to find out if I have it? Also, is there any point in getting it diagnosed if I am already on a low carb diet and controlling my blood sugar that way?
Yes. I think you should get diagnosed. And continue on the diet. I think it's easy to get pg right off the pill. It happened to me yrs ago. An Re would most likely be better than an ob.
good luck and welcome.

A friend of mine mentioned PCOS to me several months ago. I seem to have alot of the symptoms. But both my PCP and GYN told me that not to worry that everything was ok. My pcp told me to talk to my GYN and then my gyn told me that IF I did have it that the only medication to take was birth control pills. I am newly married and thinking about trying to get pregnant. My friend tells me that there could be defects to a baby if I dont get it under control right away....
Is there anything that I can do to get a real diagnosis and find out if I do have PCOS and how I can treat it?
I was too wondering if I may have PCOS..I have several symptoms (weight gain, acne, facial hair, unable to conceive, fatigue), but my cycles are pretty regular, sometimes I'm a few days late, no more than a week. Can you still have regular periods, but still have PCOS? I go to my OB tomorrow. Hopefully will find out for sure...
