Exclamation Could I have PCOS???

I will start from the begining. I went on birth control at a young age to regulate my period and help with the cramps because I was cramping so bad at times that it would make me go into the fetal position. I was on that for about 2 years and then after I got of it my periods began to skip again. I would get one then skip get a couple more than skip and so on. That happened all the way up until jan of this year. I got one in Jan and then nothing. I havent had one since then. I went to the doc in april and she said it was because of my weight. I have always been heavy so I knew it wasnt. She did a thyroid test and a testosterone test and her nurse said that the doc said everything looked fine and that she wanted me to loss some weight and come back in 3 months. Ok fine is what I thought. Well about a week later I began to cramp and it at times became overwhelming. At times not being able to sleep because of it. I also spotted 5 times that month and once in early may. Seems like the last 6-7 months I am always so tired. Just plain worn out. Well on May 5th I went to a diff doc and told him what was going on and he immediatley mentioned pcos. So he gave me some progesterone pills to start my period. He thinks I have it and wants me to do a vaginal ultrasound. Me and my husband both think I have it. What do you think?

Here are my symptoms:

1- no period for 4 months and skipping before that
2- overwhelming pelvic pain
3- hair on chin, bottom, back, toes, knuckles, stomach
4- oily skin
5- acne
6- spotting between periods
7- sleep apnea
8- overweight
9- infertility
10- dandruff

What do you think? Any advice would be helpful and much appreciated. Thanks so much.

Jim's baby--

I'm no doctor...so I can't give you an official diagnosis...but, it sounds like PCOS to me. Have you been to the doctor for an u/s?? That will get a good look at your ovaries, and see if you indeed have any cysts (although, not all women with PCOS have cysts). I have had many of the symptoms that you have. The best type of doctor to see is a Reproductive Endocrinologist. Even if you and your husband are not trying to conceive, an RE knows what is best because PCOS is an endocrine disorder, and it effects reproductive organs. I hope that helps a little.

Sounds like some of the symtoms I have and I have PCOS. You really need to find a Dr. that knows alot about PCOS and get checked out.

I have several of those same symtoms

Missed periods
Fatigue
Facial hair
pelvic pain

I went to see my obgyn last week because I had severe pelvic pain and I was also very sick to my stomach as a matter of fact I threw up a couple of times while I had the pain that lasted a couple minutes then just went away. still it was enough to cause concern. he did a routine pelvic exam and he had me go and do a pelvic sonogram (I went yesterday) and the tech told me that I had a cyst of course no details she just told me that my Dr would be calling me. I have been reading about PCOS on and off for about a month and I believe its what I have, who knows as soon I get some answers from my doc I will keep you all posted.

ok, so I went and had a pelvic sonogram on monday and my dr just called me a couple of hours ago and told me that I had a pretty big cyst and he wants me to come back in monday have a nother sonogram done and talk about having it removed...

wow all of this is happening so fast for me and it is starting to scare me a little, I was thinking I had a small cyst that would not require surgery..

oh well I am glad I found out now so i can go ahead and get it taken care of. I just worry about my 3yr old daughter she always wants to be with me and if I have to have surgery its gonna be hard for her. I am blessed with her she is a great kid and I have a alot of good people in my life that will help me get through this.

I just dont know what to expect I completely trust my Dr he is great, however just the thought of having surgery and going through this whole thing is overwhelming. GOD knows what he is doing and i have to just leave things in his hands and trust that everything will be ok

Good luck with the surgery. I just had a lap a couple of months ago. It's not so bad as long as you have someone to help with your daughter for a few days.

ok so I just had a dr appt a couple of hrs ago and my doc did another u/s and he told me that the cyst on my ovaries is getting even bigger than it was last week so i am scheduled for surgery on Friday lucky me the cyst is so big he is gonna have to go in through my old c section insicion to remove it...

I am just a little nervous, I guess cause everything is happening so fast and I am still a little worried about my daughter since i am gonna have to stay in the hospital for a couple of days. i did talk to him about PCOS and he said that according to my symptoms it is possible but that he wanted to set up my surgery first and after that was all taken care we could do the neccesary test to determine if i indeed have PCOS. I guess I am ok with that cause he didnt blow me off or act like i was crazy when i told him. He did tell me that if i was trying to get pregnant (and I am not) that we could work on that if that was a big concern of mine so i feel pretty good about how things went hopefully surgery goes well and i have no complications.

Well I will keep you guys posted

I almost done with the insurance thing so just waiting on a reply for that. I went to the emergancy room on the 22nd (got my period finally on the 20th) anyway went there with severe pelvic pain on my lower left side, he did a pelvic exam wich consisted of him feeling inside me for half a second and couldnt tell of it was my ovary or not....... was not happy. They didnt want to do an u/s because i have no insurance yet. Litteraly he tapped on my left side and i thought he punched me. horrible. so he gave me pain meds and sent me home.
