Default Could I have PCOS?

Hi, everyone! I just came across this board and thought I'd post to see if anyone had any input for me.

I am 34 years old married with two kiddos (3 1/2 and almost 2). Since my daughter was born in 2007 I have had strange things going on. I have had irregular bleeding off and on since she was 6 weeks old. Last summer I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's thyroid disease and started on meds for that. Last fall my PCP told me my sugar level was elevated and my AIC was 5.9, which was too high and that I was pre-diabetic/insulin resistant. In February I started having left abdominal pain and was diagnosed with an ovarian cyst by ultrasound. That pain has come and gone over the past few months. My thyroid numbers were good when tested a month ago.

The abnormal bleeding has continued and has worsened over the past few months but has a pretty regular pattern. Regular period for 5 days, few days of spotting, no bleeding for a few days, 3 days of red spotting, ovulation 2-3 days later, spotting 8-9 days after ovulation, period starts 11-12 days after ovulation. I have kept a temp chart for years and temps are about 0.5 degrees lower than they used to be, and luteal phase used to be a regular 13 days. I never had any abnormal bleeding before.

I am 5'9 and 135 pounds, so not overweight. I exercise a lot (doing a triathlon in July) and was able to bring my AIC down to 5.1 with diet changes. The diet is very hard to stick to and whenever I slip on it my random and fasting glucose levels go up for a day or so.

We want to try for #3 in July so I have decided to pursue this further with my gynecologist. She wants to check for fibroids or polyps first with an hsg (next week) as a starting point. I didn't have trouble conceiving before, but have had 2 miscarriages which immediately preceded both of my successful pregnancies.

Lately I've noticed increased facial hair on upper and lower lip and face in general-not happy about this at all.

My cousin has PCOS. Can PCOS develop at this point in life? Can this type of cycle happen with PCOS? Everything I've read seems to say that periods/ovulation don't regularly occur with PCOS. Could I have a "mild" case?

Thanks in advance for any replies!

Well I have ovulated before on my own and with meds. but not very often. I do however get a period every 28-36 days regardless. so I understand. I would talk to your doctor about pcos. however most believe that pcos is caused by insulin resistance and you have problems with that. it is possible that you don't have it or a very mild case of it endocrine disorders are really complicated. And most of the time there are no answers. but I just want you to know that we are here for you. hopefully that helps a little.
