Default Could this be the metformin?

I've been on 1000mg of met XR and 2000mg of cinnamon per day for a week now. Lately I've been getting this very strange feeling in my legs. It's the same feeling I get after I exercise intensely for a really long time... an exhausted, tingly sort of feeling. My muscles feel weak pretty much all the time. I know I haven't been overexercising as I've not had time to go to the gym since I started met. Has anyone else experienced this or is it unrelated to the medication?
If it helps, this is literally the ONLY side effect I've had from the met - no GI issues at all.

I get that sometimes....I'm walking along and it feels like my legs are being drawn down into the ground, and tingling as well. It doesn't happen often, but I've had that too, so I guess we're not crazy.

How's the cinnamon working?

Jessie--It COULD be a B12 deficiency. Met tends to inhibit the body's ability to absorb the B12 you get from foods. Among the symptoms of a B12 deficiency are fatigue and tingling (pins-and-needles feeling) extremeties. A lot of us take a B-complex supplement while on Met to combat that effect. You can also take calcium supplements because calcium is used to metabolize B12. There have been several threads here in the past about this, and if you Google something like "metformin b12 deficiency" you'll find some studies and other information about it.

Of course, that may not be it at all. But it's worth a shot! HTH and gl.

Thanks to both of you - I will look into a B vitamin supplement (I'm taking a calcium one now so I think that part's all right).

The cinnamon seems to be working okay. I've had virtually no appetite and no cravings since I started both the cinnamon and the met so I'm eating a LOT less, but I haven't lost any weight at all, which is a bit discouraging. But I'll give it time - I've heard most people don't see weight loss until they up their dose to 1500mg of met.

Is the cinnamon that you are talking about actual cinnamon like in the shaker?

Sounds like you need some B complex. It helped me with the aches as I call it. Take it in the morning and it will also give you energy. Taking it after lunch or later keeps me up at night.
