So I used to get a raging sweet tooth after I ate any meal, like I would need something sweet afterwards. Well now I don't feel like I need anything more and I can look at desserts and not eat them now. Don't get me wrong, I am still hungry when meal time comes, but it seems like I am filled up faster now and no longer have a real sweet tooth. I wonder if this is due to the metformin or to doing the IR diet. ?

I totally used to do that as well. I called it "switch hit eating". I'd eat something savory then something sweet then back to savory then back to sweet. I no longer do that. EVER. I METFORMIN~!

I felt the same way when i first started met. Unfortunately, my endo wanted me on the xr, so i switched and that lovely side effect vanished. I even went back on the regular met for a few weeks, but it did'nt seem to have the same effect again. I miss it, and hope it stays for you!
I have started back on met (yay!) and I forgot about this side effect. I had it on reg met and XR, which I am on now... I also find myself having to force myself to eat I just have no appetite, not that I am complaining
ps: navy_wife I am a former navy wife and my uncle used to be on the stennis!

I used to crave sweet things so badly that my husband would be doing trips to the shops all of the time to get me huge bars of chocolate, and I would eat those huge bars and still want more - I was a choccy machine and I hated it, but it was like an addiction.
Ive been on Metformin since December 29th 2006 (when I was diagnosed as type II diabetic) and am now on the maximum dose (in my area at least) of 3000mg.
I still allow myself the odd bit of chocolate but I dont crave it anymore and if it was taken away from me forever, I could more than cope.
Im also full most of the time, or thats how it feels.
I absolutely love it.
