Default Could it be related?

Sometimes I have a problem where I get bumps on my scalp and lose hair in that area.

When I was 15 or 16 I went to a dermatologist for it. He did a biopsy on my scalp and left me with a "your body is reacting to somthing it does not like" But could not tell me what or explain it any further.

Does anyone else who has hair loss get bumps or irritations where the hair falls out? I quit having this problem along time ago and it has recently come back.

Default bumps on scalp

I often get small bumps on my scalp that bleed if irritated. I've never noticed if the hair falls out in these areas, but it's possible. I don't know if it's related to PCOS - since being diagnosed with PCOS and realizing that so many of my (seemingly) unrelated health problems could be traced to PCOS, I tend to assume that EVERYTHING that goes wrong must somehow be the fault of that darned PCOS!

Hi,

I have become an avid reader since discovering pcos. One of my vitamin books (Vitamin & Minerals Handbook) mentions something called Follicular Hyperkeratosis defined as bumps on hair folicles on skin's surface. Okay, I don't know exactly what that is but it's one of the symptoms of a lack of Vitamin A. Now vitamin A is really hard to be deficient in since it stays in the body.
If you have any of the other symproms of vA deficiency then it's worth looking into.
Here's some of them: dry, scaly skin
dull, dry eyes--dislike of light, inablity to adjust eyesight in dark
gingivitus

If you do then I suggest a multivitamin (not women's formula, but something like centrum or generic centrum) BUT be careful because high doses of vitamin A can be toxic and make hair fall out so I wouldn't start just vA supplements.

There's also a good website keratin.com that might have info on your scalp problem.
