Ive been on metformin for about 2 years, but im a bit naughty and forget to take it sometime, last week i didnt take any meds and this week i promised myself that i would take all my meds when i should, i took spiro and met about 5pm and although i do mostly feel a bit nauseas it wasnt too bad, i had my dinner at about 8pm and took another spiro and met, at about 9pm my stomach was gurgling and the feeling that my stomach was going to drop, i was having pains in my stomach too, i thought i had to go to the loo and in there i was having extreme stomach pains, i went clamy and started to sweat and everything went blurry, i didnt end up going to the loo, but when i came out i dropped to my knees in agony and dizziness, i was then sick, and felt really weak. i phone the emergancy dr, who said that there could be a 30% chance it was a side effect of the meds, does anyone else have anything like this happen to them, it was really frightening, and it has happened once before, but i was stupid that time and drunk beer when i took my met. never again will i drink on met i learnt my lesson, but im puzzled as to whats wrong, thanks for reading i know this is long xx

I haven't ever had the symptoms quite as bad as you have; but, I've been close. I've been taking Metformin for about 18 months now, and I was very sick like that at the beginning. Now I only feel like that if I have forgotten to take it the day before. As long as I take it every day I don't really have many problems. I take my Spiro (50mg) at the same time as the Metformin (1000mg).
What I've found that helps is to eat something when that happens. Even though I feel nauseous, if I eat it seems to help.
Maybe talk with your doctor about taking a smaller dose and then gradually working up to where you should be and take your meds every day! They won't be nearly as effective if you just hit and miss.
You sure your sugar didnt drop too much. I dont know about the pains but the dizziness, sweating, clamy, and blurred vision are all signs of low sugar.
