Default Could someone tell me what in the world is going on??

I am so confused. My dr says I developed type 2 in pregnancy. My baby is almost 5 weeks old. My dr wanted to do a glucose tolerance test to see how diabetic I have become.
Ever since I had my baby, I have been watching carbs and testing my sugar. If I don't watch what I eat, my sugar can get high- like 156 at 2 hours after a meal. My fasting is a little high too.
So today at the test my fasting was 114. I went home for the 2 hours. I did not walk around. I rested because I really wanted accurate results. At the one hour mark, I tested my sugar and it was 186. Then right before I went in to the office it was 113. When I got back there she tested it and it was 100. This was a 2 hour test. I am so confused why I can't eat a lean cuisine because it raises my sugar but I can drink 75 grams of sugar and it's normal?!?!
I don't want to be diabetic but I want an accurate result also. What does this mean? The lab lady says I am not diabetic. I am waiting on my dr to call me. I would love to not be diabetic but I am confused why when I eat certain things my sugar goes up.
What do you think is going on??

I wish I could answer your question. Unfortunately I'm just as confused myself. I've always tested "normal" for my OGT and fasting test, however I went to the dr a few weeks ago for a test on my prolactin, I guess he tested my glucose too, and I'm now IR. It was about an hour after eating spaghetti I got an insulin level of 243, and a glucose level of 4. So who the hell knows. Apparently the people who do aren't responding to queries. lol

I'm fairly new to diabetes, but everyone's blood sugar goes up and down throughout the day.

eww-you should not have had any kind of blood glucose test an hour after eating spaghetti or anything else. Those tests should be done while fasting. I'd get it repeated.

Why doesn't our doctor give you an A1C test that will show how your glucose is doing over time? It's pretty standard for a type II diabetic to have that test every 6 months or so.

You shouldn't have any results over 180....make sure you tell your doctor about that reading.
Try keeping a food journal of what you eat, at what time, and how many carbs are in it, and what your blood glucose readings are and at what times. It sounds like your blood sugar is coming down just fine, but it's getting pretty high before it does so....something your doctor needs to be aware of.

But RELAX!! Gestational diabetes is a PITA, but it's not the end of the world. There are worse things. You'll be fine and your baby will be fine....especially since his/her mommy is working so hard to make sure it's a healthy pregnancy!!

They look at the length of time it takes for your blood sugar level to get back to normal and how high it gets. I had a Glucose Tolerance test and every 30 minutes they drew blood. At the 1 1/2 hour mark it was 265 and at the 2 hr mark it had only dropped down to 235. It should be back to normal at the 2 hour mark. I am fighting myself about eating what I should....when I don't eat healthy, my blood sugar isn't bad. But if I eat healthy, like today, it was high....so everyday is different and very frustrating...good luck and I hope others can chime in as well....
