It's so odd, I'm 20 and although my periods have been irregular, I've never had cramps, or any pain during my AF. However, during this last cycle, I was in a ton of pain. I had such bad cramps! I switched from tylenol to naproxens (prescription painkillers I usually use for migraines!). I've been on diane-35s for over a year and never had a problem.
Anyone have any idea what's up? Do you just sometimes have a bad cycle?

You can never really tell. Some women develop cycles like this over time and you could be one of them. Or sometimes when cysts break, it causes extreme pain. You might want to get checked out by your Dr. just to double check and for peace of mind.

Thanks Leikela. I randomly had a doctors appointment about something else today, so I threw that in too. She basically agreed with you and said that my cycle may be changing and it might be just a odd one.

You're very welcome! If it happens again then definitely visit your gyno, especially if you're in extreme pain. Have a great vacation!

I had a similar thing happen to me. I started having periods at age 13 and while I did have cramping, it was tolerable. By the time I was 20 I went on birth control for the first time because the cramping had gotten so bad. It would last for two or three weeks out of the month, even though I was having regular periods lasting less than a week. My doctor suspected endometriosis but I've never had a laparoscopy to confirm. When I was diagnosed with PCOS I went on Depo, which my doctor said would help shrink my cysts. An added bonus was no periods! I can only stay on it for two years because of the risk of bone loss if you take it for longer periods of time, but it's been so nice not having a period.
Maybe you could consider Seasonale if it continues, where you only have four periods a year? I think there's a new drug coming out soon that eliminates your period (and it's a pill, not a shot like Depo) called Lybrel. It should be available next month. I hope you feel better soon!
Thanks MustangSally82. Very interesting. Only having my AF 4 times a year would be great!
I do feel much better - I don't know what I'd do if I had cramping for 2 or 3 weeks! 2 or 3 days was enough to bother me!
I'm waiting with baited breath for my next cycle and hoping it's all ok!
