Aleve is naproxin. Try and look for the labels. I happen to be allergic to most pain relief meds and I found a way to help my cramps....TMI WARNING!!! is to orgasm in any way you can. It seems to get things moving.

I have found that good old Ibuprophen works wonders.
Another "drug free" way to get rid of cramps is to do some ab crunches or sit ups.

I don't know about increasing blood flow. All I know is that it is the only over-the-counter medication that took away my cramps & pain.
Now that I'm TTC I can't take it, so I have to make do with ab crunches. It works, but can get a bit tricky when I'm at work

asprin increases blood flow, Ibuprofen helps with inflammation. Aleive is also known as anaprox or naproxen sodium.

but I have to agree with disintegration on her "drug free" remedy, I know that it ha worked wonders for me before.

anaprox helped me a lot

it stopped the bleeding a bit and cut down on the cramping significantly

I went to the pharmacy, and to get those drugs in Canada you need a script!

Guess it's tylenol for me.

Hi there,

Yep, Ibephrophean also help with me....I also find that hot water bottles help (or heat pads) and when the pain gets really bad - so much you cannot stand it and are crying and wishing you were dead (soz thats how I feel sometimes lol) .... get into a hot bath and try and relax. The water stops the bleeding and the warmth soothes the cramps.
I also find that kind of half sitting/lying (kind of in a big chair) is more comfortable than lying or standing.
It is difficult when your working though for the first day of my AF I have to take the day off...

HTH a little

Best Wishes
Nyk x

I have a script for naprpxen, but aleve is the OTC version. Ask the pharmacist if there is an OTC version out there.

I usually don't get a visit from AF, but when I do, I also have severe cramping too. I usually take Advil and lay on my stomach on the heating pad...seems to ease the pain. HTH!

I don't get AF regularly either but when I do it is usually BAD! And the cramping can kill! It is really hard to make yourself go and exercise when AF is present, but you know what, IT REALLY DOES HELP!! Just walking on a treadmill (if you go to the gym) or a walk around the block a few times will help a lot. It doesn't have to be strenuous exercise, just walking is fine, and it does really help. Also, I don't know about the pain relievers that are specifically made for mentrual symptoms, but have you looked at anything like Midol, or Premsyn or anything like that?? Like I said I'm not sure about them I haven't used them since I was in middle school so I don't really know if they will help or if they are what you are looking for. Ibuprofen can do the trick too...it's an anti inflammatory. Also, I agree about the heating pads, those can ease the pain sometimes, they are soothing. I have also heard that drinking green tea or chammomile tea can help w/pms and cramps too. I haven't tried it so I don't know if it's true, just something I've heard I have never heard that about having an orgasm before though, thanks for the tip! When dh is ready he doesn't care if I have AF or not (I am the one that cares! LOL) Maybe now I'll just give in and see if it helps! LOL :o

Lightbulb To all of you with this problem

I had this problem too. I would have to miss school sometimes. My DR always told me that after I had I baby that it would really help me with the cramps and bleeding. Which at the time he also told me that I would never be able to have kids without help from a DR. Well, first of all I have 2 kids on my own no help and my visits from AF are much better. I have NO cramps and very normal bleeding! So if nothing else works, & if you want to have a baby one day, that might help you too !
