Default Cramps and no period - very confused

Hi all, I havent posted on here for a VERY long time as after being diagnosed, I was able to control my symptoms very well with weight loss and Metformin. Things have started to go wrong agin though and I really need some guidance from others.

After going onto metformin I managed to get my cycle down to 34 days ( O at day 28 confirmed via blood tests) and was lucky enough to concieve and gave birth to a lovely baby boy in Sept 07. I put on alot of weight when I was pregnant and have been really battling ever since to get it off, I now have 7lb to go to get to my pre-pregnancy weight. All sounds great, however my cycle has never really gotten back to normal, I did think though at one point that my PCOS had gone as I seemed to be bleeding at around the same date every month, over the last few months however things have gotten a bit "weird" I seemed to start spotting a week before I was due ( not brown but bright red - TMI sorry!) and then nothing for a week, then a very short period nowhere near as painful as previous ones ( I always had very heavy and pianful periods even when regular) suddenly this month I have nothing. I am more than 10 days over what I had expected and have alot of abdo pain, I keep thinking "oh yeah this is it" then nothing. I have done a HPT but this is negative and I dont have any other symptoms that could suggest otherwise.

I am getting really worried that this sudden change could be sonething a bit sinister. I have Metformin from the Doc (after quite a battle as I'm not TTC at the mo, but why wait until then to get myself sorted?) in case I need to take it again and don't know if I should just start to take it again?? it gives me an upset stomach for weeks when I start taking it.

Sorry for the long post but i'm going nuts with worry and don't know what to do
