The big scare for lunch meat is "listeria", which isn't as common as we think, here are the stats I posted on a thread, way back when: First off, Congrads on your pregnancy! H&H 9 months.
Secondly, Yes, listeria is scary and dangerous for pregnant women. And pregnant women are more susceptible to the bacteria. But the likely-hood of getting it is very rare.
There our 2,500 reported cases a year, and 27% of those cases are pregnant women. So that means 675 pregnant women a year get listeria. The biggest risk for listeria is in the first trimester, when going into premature labor means the fetus will parish.
Pregnancy is scary, really scary and your concerns are warranted, but the likely-hood of getting listeria is rather low. I would just make sure that you don't eat things that are not well handled and make sure you are using antibacterial soap on your dishes/knives/cutting boards etc (which I am sure you did before being pregnant).
I have ate tuna by the can and sandwiches daily with all of my pregnancys and never had a problem. There are many horror stories that come along with pregnancy and everyone wants to tell you what and what not to do. The best advice I can give is, "Follow your instincts" you've made it your whole life and many many many pregnant women have done the same throughout the years. Try not to worry. You will spend your whole pregnancy worrying and you'll miss the best parts!!
Good luck!!

When I think of deli meat I think of Salami which is prepared completely differently so yes, can have bacteria. Roast meat should be fine though, least i'd never heard of not eating ham or beef or any of that.
I craved beer while pregnant, ate salami (mmm pepperoni.. yum) and sushi a LOT (I really wanted sushi) and we were all fine. I suppose you just have to be sensible and know you can trust the supplier you know?

My Mood: Points: 34,787.14 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 34,787.14 | When I was pregnant with son #1 I worked in a jewelry kiosk in the mall 3 times a week. We didn't have a fridge or microwave so I had to buy dinner at the mall. My options were Subway, McDonalds, or a pizza shop. I wanted to eat healthy so I usually ate a turkey sub every time I worked and everything was just fine.

I've also read that if you nuke the meat a little until steaming, then immediately put it in the fridge and eat it later that day, that you are fine. If there is any listeria, it comes from being improperly handled and stored over time, and nuking it will get rid of it.
