I always crave sweets. I think those of us with insulin resistance crave it also.

I crave sweets during AF too. Especially chocolate.

If you just can't stand it any longer, there are quite a few good low-carb varieties of ice cream, even candy. When I was pregnant w/ my daughter, I ate chocolate CarbSmart and it didn't make my blood sugar spike! I would only eat a scoop, but it was enough to give me a nice chocolate moment!

I always crave carbs ~ chips, bread, donoughts, cinnamon rolls etc ~ when AF is visiting or just past.

Strangely enough i don't really crave sweets ... but these days i eat a piece of the dark 70% coco chocs and i'm fine

I have tons of cravings!!! I go in spurts though and it doesn't always revolve around AF, but I do get extremely hungry during AF!

Since i started Metformin this week i have been a total pig. A ton carbs from bread and potatos but luckly i been content with my sugar-free chocolate. I thought the Metformin would stop the carb cravings( remind you i WAS on a carb-free diet for over a month!) but I am a lil worried if i keep it up with the carbs but i feel like i cant control it- i will refuse to eat if a carb is not involved....yikes!

I have a book about an insulin-resistance diet that talks about linking proteins with carbs when eating to stave off the high spikes in sugar that carbs cause. It does a great job keeping the cravings away too.

I have since been diagnosed with diabetes and with my *much* healthier eating habits, I no longer have those crazy, intense cravings for sweets. I remember not even being done with a meal and thinking about what we had in the house that was sweet to eat. I don't ever think that way anymore. Kinda weird-but a good thing!

The big thing lately is Ruffles chips, I could eat a whole bag if I didn't half way control myself.

The strangest thing I have craved this month is yellow mustard. So I had a hot dog. And no I'm not pg.

Many sugar/carb cravings can be caused by a serotonin deficiency! Make sure you are getting a goodnights sleep if you can and be sure to eat enough protein.

You can also ask your Dr about possibly supplementing with some 5-HTP which is and OTC supp. The amount varies by person though so (as with any supp) be careful about adding new things to your supps/meds without good research and help from a professional.

Here is a 5-HTP link:
http://www.lifelinknet.com/siteResou...oducts/HTP.asp

It has helped me with cravings and with sleep!

AF without chocolate? Don't know if I could survive that, LOL.

Seriously, when I started taking Met, the first weeks, until my body got accustomed to it, I was craving carbs as well. As a matter of fact, it was so bad, I would feel terribly nauseaous and dizzy if I didn't eat them. I still lost some weight then. Ah, I wish those days were back (well, not really ...).

The days before AF I used to crave verything, and especially chocolate and cake-y things. Now, I am on a low carb diet, and I still crave sweets, but I can counter it by eating fruit. So far anyway, AF is due in two days. Also, I am taking strong multi-vitamins (with zinc and chrome and all kinds of other good stuff mixed in), and I believe that helps too. My PMS symptoms (depression and general crabbiness) are almost gone, yay!
