Unhappy Cravings on met

I upped my metformin dosage to 2000mg last week; the symptoms are completely different from what I had at 1000mg. I've been getting these really intense cravings for starchy/refined sugar type foods and some days I can't eat anything without getting nauseous. I've been dieting low carb for a couple of years and just switched to the GI diet on the recommendation of my endo. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced cravings like these? It's really frustrating b/c I barely eat those kinds of foods, and now for some reason they're all I want...

Morning Cole87
I can't help you but boy can I relate. I have been eating South Beach for the past two years. When I went on met 500, nothing, 1000 nothing, 1500... I craved sugary stuff really bad! And I could not "ignore" the cravings. Even if it was just a bite of one of my kids poptarts, I HAD to have it. I just had to have enough to satisfy. It seems to be subsiding a bit now.
What is the GI diet?
Hope someone answers us both.

I still get cravings when my period is due. Could the higher dose be affecting your hormones and your period is on the way?

Thanks for your reply,
GI diet pretty much emphasizes the "good carbs" with protein and vegetables. I got my period when I started the 1000mg and so far no sign of it at 2000mg. I'm trying to hold off on prometrium for a few days to see if it comes on its own (I'm keeping my fingers crossed)... The cravings seemed to have subsided in the last couple of weeks and are definitely less intense. I'm hoping it's just me getting used to the metformin.
