My Mood: Points: 7,370.50 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 7,370.50 | Crazy relentless nausea... I have nausea 24/7. I have trouble eating, brushing my teeth is impossible sometimes (gross I know, but I've been able to use mouthwash), and I can rarely take my pills (met or prenatals) w/out running to the nearest sink/toilet/trashcan and gagging my brains out. I haven't thrown up yet, mostly because I force myself not too, but this is terrible. Any suggestions on how to deal with this? I started taking my vitamins at night because they also upset my stomach, but I don't know what else to do. I know that doctors prescribe pills for ppl who are vomitting constantly, but will they give me anything just to get rid of the nausea? I'm at a loss...any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

I dunno if that was just her single experience or if that might help you if you can get em down. I carry around peppermints like the kind they give out in resturants and they help a lot.. Good luck and I really hope u find something to help!!

Crackers made me puke, and anything minty like a peppermint made me even more nauseated. The ONLY things that worked for me was Zofran---ask your Dr. about it...it was my best friend. I don't think I would have made it without it. And Sour candy. Sweet tarts were my favorite...anything to keep a bad taste out of my mouth. Lemon drops and lemonade helped me as well.
Good luck!!

My Mood: Points: 7,370.50 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 7,370.50 | I tried a peppermint a few days ago and had to spit it out...it just tasted terrible! Actually made my stomach churn. As for the saltines, they help a little bit, but don't actually take the nausea away. Oddly enough, I feel great when I wake up in the morning and worse as the day goes on. By mid afternoon I'm a mess. I also tried the accupressure wristbands, but they hurt more than helped. I go to the RE for u/s #2 on Thursday, so maybe I'll just stick it out until then and see what he says.

Maybe it's time to try it. Minty doesn't work for me either....increases my nausea, actually. (I think mine were sugar free too.)
Weird food item that I CAN eat: gummy bears....strange

Mine started out as nauesa and gagging at week 5 and by week 10 it became even worse nausea with vomiting. I lived with it for 3 weeks but I just couldn't take it anymore. I broke down and called my OB for some Zofran, and I start that tonight.
Good luck with whatever you do! |

My Mood: Points: 16,928.52 Bank: 105,850.05 Total Points: 122,778.56 | Like you I'm trying to find something that works.
People have said lemon drops/lemon heads worked for them. I've been sucking on them & they help a tiny bit but now my mouth is raw from sucking on them.
My sister in law says ginger tea works really well for her (she's preggo too). I'm TRYING to drink it but it's a struggle for me. I don't like the taste of ginger & I find the tea to be gross.
My next step is to get some B6 vitamins. The OB said I can take 75mgs a day & it supposedly helps with "morning" sickness.
For me it's not too bad in the morning but I have that acid feeling when I wake up so I nibble crackers before even getting out of bed. I've found that eating plain toast throughout the day has helped soak up some of the acid (which helps with the nausea). Like a PP mentioned though...I usually feel a little better after I throw up.
I'm trying to hold off on the Zofran because I know my insurance company is friggin stingy with it. They'll let you have 15 pills every 30 days & that's it. Only in extreme cases will they authorize more & even then it's not guaranteed.
I hope you get some relief soon!

My Mood: Points: 14,285.92 Bank: 379,969.42 Total Points: 394,255.34 | funny to read this, because peppermint candy was one of the only things that helped me. It wasn't perfect, but if I had to go to a two hour meeting or something and knew I couldn't just puke in the middle of it, I would suck on peppermints until it was over.
Constantly munching on little things helped me, too. Very cold and frozen fruity sweets helped, like frozen fruits (frozen cherries being the best!), fruit sorbets, fruit popsicles, etc. Very cold melon and strawberries were nice, too. Jello would go down well but left me queasy after a short time.
My doctor also suggested benadryl or unisom (half of a tablet) on occasion for milder nausea.
I tried ginger, b6 vitamins, etc but no luck. Some people suggested green apples but they made me gag (still do). Also, if I was very desperate, a fresh slice of lemon was helpful to sniff and taste. It helped to keep me from vomiting even though the nausea was still present.
However, mine eventually got bad enough that I needed zofran and phenergen. Both helped the nausea and especially the vomiting, but not without the side effects. The zofran was a pain to get because insurance would only give me 12 pills at a time (although they would refill it whenever I needed) plus it gave me HORRIBLE constipation. The phenergen just completely knocked me out so I guess if I still felt sick I just didn't notice it.
I think trial and error is the best thing, unfortunately, but if it stays bad talk to your doctor about the zofran or phenergen because at least they can offer you occasional relief.

I don't want to scare you, but, it lasted until I delivered her! It was horrible and I went through a huge bottle of Tums every three days, ate salteans, ate Belly Pops, peppermints, you name it I tried it!
W/DD #2 it was the same, but it went away around week 16... so it was much better!

My Mood: Points: 2,234.07 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 2,234.07 | Wow, this sounds terrifying. I haven't thrown up yet, but if I start to get hungry in the least (which happens every hour or so), I start feeling nauseated. Mostly, I think, it's this heightened sense of smell--I'm literally backing away from people in stores and gagging at the smell of cigarettes. So far, cold water is helpful, Reed's Ginger Chews (I hate ginger, but the buggers work), and avoiding most everything I intended to eat during pregnancy: vegetables, whole grain anything, meat... Sigh. I hope this goes away soon. |
