Points: 6,570.80 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 6,570.80 | crying all morning...please help! Hey Ladies,
I started Met last October. i was prescribed 500 mg 2x per day to hopefully help me to get a period and to control the hormones. Well, after about 4 months or so, my testosterone dropped from 102 to 36, I got a period and have gotten one every 30-37 days since with only 500 mg (one dose of Met per day). So I have just stuck with the 500 mg per day. Although I had been getting my period, I saw no improvement with the facial hair, so I started electrolysis. I have also seen no improvement with the acne, so I continue to use OTC products which has helped to control it somewhat. But here it is where the crying comes in...for some reason, the hair loss has not only continued, it has gotten EXTREMELY worse. I don't what to do. I lost approx 300-400 hairs this morning alone. I can never leave my hair down, because I shed constantly. I have lost approx 1/2 of my hair over the last year. I am getting married in May 2007 and am so scared that I will have lost much more hair by then. All of the doctors I have seen really offer no support or help. What should I do? Over the past 6 months, I have tried not to think about it...with the notion that stress would only make it worse. I have been sobbing uncontrollably all morning...what should I do???? |

I used to have full hair but now, I am losing so much so fast. I can actually use the hair that falls out as a stopper for the drain, and start to fill the tub.
Anyway, I wanted to give you hugs and tell you, you are not alone.

Thank you so much for the info.

I don't have any advice, just a {{{HUG}}}.

Also, look into a hat veil. They can be very, very pretty and CLASSY. (my mom is a bridal seamstress, I have seen all types)
Also, if you are not TTC, use Hair Regrowth Treatments, I buy mine at Meijer here in Ohio, I buy the mens formula (it's WAY stronger.) Although, yes you will have increased facial hair, but I'd rather pluck than have no hair, you know?
I hope you feel better. I am sure you will be a beautiful bride regardless.

There were days that handfulls would fall out at a time and I would just stand there and cry. I was starting to thin pretty badly at the temples and the crown. My dr told me that as your hormone levels change it will cause you to shed, sometimes uncontrollably, but that as your body finds balance it will stop. I take liquid coral calcium each day, b12, and extra folic acid because met can interfere with the absorption of those vitamins. My hair stopped falling out and started to fill back in somewhere around the 10 month mark. I know this is hard and my heart breaks for you because I remember that feeling. I hope you find a doctor who will listen to you.

My Mood: Points: 9,157.80 Bank: 35.38 Total Points: 9,193.17 | is that number you've got for testosterone for total or free testosterone?
i believe it's the free testosterone that is the culprit when it comes to facial hair and hair loss.
also, have you been working out a lot, losing weight or had something very stressful happen in your life? i'm asking this because i went through an experience a few years ago when i was dieting (lost 70 lbs in 4 months) and then had a very sad thing happen. after that, i started losing a lot of hair and it became very thin.
i made a big effort to get my stress levels down (hoping this would reduce the testosterone in my system, which had actually spiked around the time of the stress), and i did start taking a lot of vitamins, which i do think helped. as someone mentioned here, vitamin B is very good - add in some biotin and a good all round multi.
*sends a hug*

I started taking GNC Hair, Skin and Nails formula with great results. That vitamin has a mega-dose of Biotin among other things. It may be worth trying...
Best of luck,
Sarah

My Mood: Points: 214.67 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 214.67 | Wow I sooo know how you feel. Everytime I take a shower I leave hlaf of my head in there. I used ot have realllllllly thick hair and now....well...not so much. Even if you do loose more hair before the wedding, there are plenty of things that you can do to cover the thinning up. I am a jeweler and just made a beautiful sterling silver tierra for a thinning hair bride. We swept her hair up in an up-do and the fixed the tierra on top.
Or you can try the extension idea. Either way...it will not show and you will be able to feel confident and beautiful. |
