Drinking 2 cups of spearmint tea a day could help women with excess body hair, scientists claim today.
Hirsuitism is a condition which leads women to grow hair on their faces, breasts and stomachs.
It is caused by high levels of 'masculine' hormones called androgens and can be a symptom of polycystic ovary syndrome.
However, drinking spearmint tea can have a good effect in counteracting high androgen levels, test on 21 women showed.
The Turkish team decided to study the effects of spearmint following reports that it could cut sexual desire in men because it reduced their androgen levels.
The women were given a cup of the tea twice a day for 5 days in phase of their menstrual cycle when the ovarian follicle develops.
Researcher Mehmet Numan Tamer said "This study shows spearmint could be a good natural alternative for women who have mild symptoms of hirsuitism"
Previously, the contraceptive pill has been used to treat the condition as it suppresses androgen production.
The research, by the team from Suleyman Demirel University in Isparta, is published today in the journal Phytotherapy Research.
More research is now needed into the subject to check how useful spearmint tea is, Ms Numan added.

I had a look in the supermarket yesterday and there were two twinings teas with spearmint. camomile and spearmint and 'clease' (which is part of the 'blended for you' range) which has spearmint, milk thistle, nettle and peppermint. I bought the 'cleanse' and it's ok.. doesn't actually taste as bad as I thought! I would still like to find a pure loose leaf spearmint though as the percentages aren't great in the twinings stuff and you only get 20 bags per box.
I'm going shopping tomorrow so I'll have a look for that then, thanks very much Sauerkraut!

Just an FYI for anyone who is breastfeeding - mint decreases breastmilk supply and is often an ingredient in "dry-up" teas and potions. So for my BF cysters, maybe wait until you've weaned to try this.
I often read the Metro as it is usually left on the bus or my partner brings one home for me to read. I must have missed out on an issue tho, definitely going out to buy some spearmint tea tomorrow and knock those back instead!
Anyone noticed any change in appearances? Do you think the tea's work on acne as well?
I love these smilies I have used them on all of my posts.

I went to Asda yesterday and they had about 6 types of green tea, 4 types of Peppermint and gawd knows how many types of others...but no Spearmint! I'll keep searching and let you know where I can find this stuff. I saw all the different Twinings ones and they all look delicious!
