I have a genuine interest in learning about Jesus, and I want to learn about him in a calm, enlightened way. Can anyone suggest a really good, and honest, book about him? Maybe a website or two? I know enough about him to believe in him, I just want to explore his teachings a bit more.
Thanks in advance!
Xeri

There are a lot of books out there. Check out http://www.christianbook.com/ for different books. The book of John in the Bible is a really good start. I also liked Les Strobels The Case for Christ. If you ever have any questions, please feel free to pm me or email me. My email is jnalowd@comcast.net

Hi there!
Thanks for replying. I was in a bookstore yesterday and actually skimmed The Case for Christ before becoming overwhelmed by all the titles in front of me and giving up. Maybe I will go back for it... who knows, maybe you saying that particular title was more than just a coincidence?
Thanks again, I really appreciate it.

Well, I just got back from the bookstore where after spending over two hours checking out various titles and reading lots of excerpts, I settled on The Jesus I Never Knew by Philip Yancey.
At first I immediately went to The Case for Christ, but eventually put it back because, for me, I already know Jesus existed. He was and is very real, so I do not need to be convinced of that. :p
I guess what I was looking for was some sort of, for lack of a better way of expressing it, a Jesus for Dummies-type book. lol I wanted the basics, and I think Yancey's book is a good place to start. Are either of you familiar with his books?
It's pretty interesting so far, and seems to be what I've been looking for. Granted I've only gotten to page 49 so I can't say too much about it yet!
Thanks for your advice, I'm glad you replied. Hopefully other cysters will join this thread and we can exchange opinions on, and suggest, more titles.
In peace and friendship,
Xeri

And during the class, what one of the instructors said was that to get a better picture of the Bible you want to get as close to the primary (original) documents as possible. He was explaining the differences between the different versions of the Bible. And the more that I think about your question, the more I feel like this statement answers it. I would highly suggest that if you want to learn more you need to get into the original document, the word of God!
Good luck to you and may God bless you with the knowledge you seek.
Here's a website I found really interesting if you want to check it out........ www.graceandtruth.net.............it follows in english with the original languages that the Bible was written in which is greek and hebrew......very interesting stuff.
I would ditto the Gospel of John as a great place to learn what Jesus taught. The four Gospels have the teachings of Jesus, sermons and parables. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
Check out www.biblegateway.com . You can enter key words to research certain topics. I also like to get devotionals there as well as individual bible studies. I use this site all the time and really enjoy it. You can also check which version of the bible you want to view when looking up scriptures.
There is a great christian paretning website at www.onlinechrsitianparents.com we have a whole forum where you can ask certain questions about Jesus. We also have on that has article. We talk about books and many others things. I have learned alot about Jesus and how top be a better christian.
You don't have to be a mommy to join either.

Wow, the feedback I've received on this thread has been amazing! Thank you all for your kind suggestions, I'm looking forward to exploring all of them. I'm also grateful for your invitations to send private messages for further discussion. I'm sure I'll have many more questions!
On another note, I find the Yancey book very interesting, have any of you read it? Or any of his other titles? What do you think of his work?
In peace and friendship,
Xeri
