Default Currently suffering my 3rd loss-Does anyone have any advice for me?

Hi ladies. Sadly, I'm having my 3rd m/c. I started spotting over the weekend and went to the ER today. Ultrasound showed a fetal pole and sac measuring 6w4d but no heartbeat. My HCG is dropping so m/c is imminent. I'm heartbroken. My first 2 m/c were with my OB/GYN so I wasn't being monitored at all. After that, I decided to get an RE to test me and monitor me and hopefully prevent this from happening again. Only it did happen again. The RE found stage 2 endo and fibroids which he removed in a lap, found my progesterone was a little low so I was on prometrium and suppositories this pregnancy, he put me on baby aspirin, and a high folic acid prenatal while ttc. I feel like it did no good because here I am again, in the same place. Does anyone have any advice for me? Tests I should ask for, things I should get checked? I'm suspecting 1 of two things, either egg quality because I did clomid this cycle and my follies never got quite large enough (they were only or 15mm at trigger) or autoimmune issues. I do have 2 known autoimmune conditions, hashimotos thyroid and psoriasis that comes and goes. But I had these when I was pregnant with my son and had no problems carrying him. I just don't understand and could use any advice. I'm feeling very hopeless. Thanks.

I'm really sorry. I don't really have any advice. I suffered my 4th this month & I asked my dr if she though it was a clotting issue or something & she said because I carried to term once before the chances of these problems are really, really low. Hopefully your RE will have something more that he can test you for.

I just had my 3rd chemical pregnancy, so that makes 4 miscarriages when you include the 1st pg that ended at 8 weeks. I have no children yet.
I pushed for a thrombophilia panel and sure enough, I have a genetic mutation called MTHFR homozygous C677t which means, (the easy explanation), is that I will be put on heparin next pg. I also pushed for a thyroid test and as it turns out, I'm hyperthyroid, so I'm on PTU for that. These two things were just discovered in January (thanks in no part to doctors who never suggested testing. Good thing I pushed).....

I have a friend who had no problems with her first pg, but after several m/c after that, found out that she needed heparin. Now she has a 2nd child.

Best wishes. For all of us!

I am sorry for your losses

Have you been tested for clotting factors and autoimmune?

Some clotting disorders require the use of Heparin or Lovenox in pregnancy.... Sometimes they don't show on tests, so sometimes doctors will just put a woman on them with multiple miscarriages, as a just in case precaution.

Thanks for your replies ladies. I just got back from the RE's office and I asked about the testing I've had. I already had all the autoimmune/clotting testing and it came out fine. I'm at such a loss. I have a consult scheduled with the RE for next week to go over what he thinks we should do next. I hope he has some answers for me because this just feels so hopeless. I keep losing all my babies and no one can tell me why.

I completely, completely understand where you are at! My OB said once this loss is over we're going to try to figure out what's going on. But, I honestly don't have much hope. It's not like other women who can't get pg. My mom keeps telling me about women who do IVF because they can't have babies. I'm like I can get pg, I just can't stay pg! Even if I did IVF there would be no guarantee I would stay pg. Not to mention the cost involved. Anyway, I'm sorry I didn't mean to hijack your thread, just wanted you to know I understand.

Michelle-Thanks, its nice to have some who understands. I know what you mean about IVF. I've thought about that, like maybe if I did IVF they would get healthier eggs and only implant the best embryos. But with my luck, I would spend the $10,000-$15,000 and still miscarry. And when I went through the testing with the RE, he said my egg supply/quality was great anyway. And you've had a healthy pregnancy too, I see. Its so frustrating, I had no problems, no complications at all with my DS and now everything has fallen apart with TTC #2.

Stacy- As I told you on the other thread, I am really sorry this happened to you. But I noticed that you said your follies were only at 15mm when you triggered. I am no expert but that seems kind of soon to trigger. My RE always wants them to be at least 18mm. It might be something to ask about and I know it definitely wouldn't do any harm to wait a day or two longer to to the trigger and let the follie get a little more mature.

-Jennifer

First, I am so very sorry for your losses. As you can see below, our stories are very similar. I have one 4 yr old DS, and then had 4 m/c's before this pregnancy. I have made it to 16 weeks and so far so good (even though I still worry every day) so don't give up hope! I finally went to an RE and tried several things this time around. I took Femara instead of clomid which worked like a charm where clomid always took forever to make me Ov. RE said an earlier ovulation can sometime be a healthier ovulation. Then I did a trigger shot when I had a big enough follicle, and HCG booster shots to boost my progesterone during the 2ww every three days. I was also taking met, folgard, aspirin, and Prenate Elite. I am off the met now but still take everything else. After I got my BFP, I immediately started progesterone injections twice a week as well as Lovenox injections twice a day. I am now off the progesterone and only take the lovenox once per day. I do have two copies of one of the genes (can't remember which) for MTHFR and though I may not even need these blood thinning injections I am on them as a precaution. I don't know which or if all of these things helped me this time around but since I've made it this far, I have to believe that one or all of these things made a difference.

Alicia-Thanks so much for your post. It gives me hope that maybe I do have a shot at a successful pregnancy. It seems like a lot of the women who have had multiple losses have MTHFR, I keep hearing it over and over. Do you know if testing for MTHFR is standard in the repeat miscarriage workup? I had the repeat miscarriage workup after my second loss, but I don't know if I was tested for MTHFR. I have a consultation with my RE on Monday so I'm going to ask him about it.

Stacy - I'm not sure if the MTHFR is part of the standard testing, but it may be since I did not specifically ask for it and it was part of my testing. Surprisingly enough I have even heard of doctors that still don't think it's relevant to m/c and didn't mention the results came back with copies of the genes until specifically asked by the patient. Many doctors aslo don't believe in progesterone supplementation and I really think that was one of the key factors that help me here, especially during the 2ww during implantation.

Just an update, I met with my RE today. I asked him again, and he says I had all the autoimmune/clotting disorder testing and it all came out normal. He scheduled a D&C for tomorrow and plans to do a chromosome study on the fetal tissue. He also wants to do a chromosome study on DH. I'm hoping there will be a chromosome problem with the fetal tissue so I can accpet that this one wasn't meant to be and feel good about trying again. I'm scared they won't find anything and it will still be a big question mark.
