Default Cyclical depression and Yasmin

In september of 2002 I started taking Glux XR (500mg once a day) and Yasmin. After that, my mood swings about a week before my period to a week after my period started getting REALLY bad, so the doc put me on 10mg of Lexapro. It didn't really help. Then we went up to 20mg of Lexapro in January, still didn't help. So now a psychiatrist is putting me on the Prozac extrended release that releases over 7 days and then 10mg of Prozac to take daily during those rough times of the month.

My question is, did Yasmin do this to anyone? I'm kind of scared to go off because I like how it has helped my pcos and I don't want to get pg but these moods are beyond horrible!

Just curious if this has happened to anyone else, especially on Yasmin.

Thanks!

Would your Dr. let you try a different BCP? My DD's endo put her on mercette to regulate her and get her PCOS hormones under control. Isn't it awful to have to take a pill because of the side- effects of a different pill. I hate that, but I guess sometimes that's the only option. Lendi

Thanks for the response Lendi Thought I was invisible on here..LOL. Anyway, I'm sure if I talked to him, we would figure something out. I was just curious if anyone else had this problem with the Yasmin or if its maybe the Gluc? Or maybe my depression symptoms are truly coming out now that other things are working better? Does that make sense or even possible?

I was one Yasmin for a month and a half and really liked the way it controlled my acne and hair. I didn't notice any depression, and I am very prone to depression. I was on ortho-tri-cyclen for years in my twenties and was very depressed, but I think it was because of PCOS and from dealing with all of my yucky symptoms without a diagnosis.

I hope you feel better soon. I am not sure if Yasmin would cause this since it is so low in hormones and is supposed to be the best for PCOS, but you never know.

Get better!

Also, many are tired when they are starting the Gluc and don't have any energy for a few months....could that be it?

Yes, I ultimately had to go off it due to severe depression and mood swings. I was already being treated with Wellbutrin for depression and was doing *much* better, until I started the Yasmin, I spiraled downward very quickly. I was sad about it too due to the GREAT results I had for my PCOS but I just wasn't myself.

One idea, some of what works on PCOS in Yasmin is a similar component to Spirolacne (sp?), maybe you can try that instead. I'm pregnant now but may try it afterwards myself.

Thank you STML and Tamara

I've been on Gluc for over a year, so dont think its that

I go back to the psych in 3 weeks to see how the Prozac is doing, if things haven't changed, I'll probably talk to my ob/gyn about changing BCP's or going off it entirely and doing other things for my pcos.

Thankfully my doc is really knowlegable about pcos and also listens to his patients.

thanks again
