Default CYmbalta?

I can't find a thread on this one- has anyone tried it? My doctor said it is similar to Wellbutrin but better- whatever that means- anyway... It's also $50 with my insurance (YOUCH! It doesn't come in generic yet) and of course Wellbutrin is old and cheap. Does anyone have anything to say about the difference between the 2 or have FABULOUS things to say about Cymbalta that makes it worth $50 a month???

Thanks!

Thumbs up

I LOVED Cymbalta. I only stopped because I no longer had insurance. It by far was the best a-d I had been on(have tried 5-6?) It helps a lot if you have physical pain with your depression(muscle aches, headaches). And the withdrawal when I came off was nowhere near as bad as when I tried to discontinue other a-d's.

All that good stuff aside, every a-d works differently for every person, so maybe it won't be all that worth it to you, but I would definitely give it a try.

I take it, it's fine, nothing particularly special imo.

I'm confused as to why your doctor would say it's similar to Wellbutrin. Wellbutrin works on dopamine receptors, where as Cymbalta is an SNRI. The big differences I'm aware of is that Wellbutrin doesn't tend to cause the sexual side affects some anti-depressants cause, or weight gain, but it doesn't help much with anxiety and can cause headaches.

I started about a month ago and I have sexual side effects - feel numb down stairs, also it causes MAJOR consitpation when I first took I didnt have a BM for four straight days! I cant tell if I like it yet or not, I had surgery to remove endo three weeks ago and feel major depressed. I am crying all the time and just dont want to get out of bed. I assumed this med would helo with that but no such luck.

I take it. I was on Wellbutrin before and has icky side effects. As long as I take my pill every day I'm good, but if I forget it I start to getting dizzy and a bad headache. I'm dealing with the bad headache and dizziness right because I'm waiting for my pharmacy to get my prescription to me.
