I posted a while back about a lump in my foot. It was on the side at the end of the arch about the size of a quarter. When I first noticed it, I thought it was a spider bite as it just looked like a swollen area. It never hurt, none the less I figured I'd get it checked out anyway. Well, I finally went to the doctor today and she felt it and said that it appeared to be a fluid filled cyst and she was gonna take a needle and pull the fluid out and send it to the lab. Although I really didn't like this idea as I am deathly afriad of needles, I was curious to find out what it was. After the doctor numbed the area, she inserted the needle 3 times without being able to remove any fluid. She is sending me for an ultrasound of the area tommorow. Now I'm scared. Could it be cancer? Why wouldn't the fluid come out? What is the ultrasound gonna tell them? If anyone has been through a similar situation or knows anything about stuff like this, I'd love to know. I'm gonna be terribly worried until I get the results or talk to my doctor again.
I had a cyst in my right wrist that doctors were unable to get any fluid out of. They ended up surgically removing it, and it was not cancer. Just a run of the mill ganglion cyst.
Run a search here on 'ganglion'. I seem to recall a few threads from cysters who've had them.
Try to stay calm {{hugs}}

Kat,
Thanks. I do feel a little better. I can't wait to hear the results of everything so that I can stop worrying completely. I appreciate your response. Its nice to have my cysters here for support when I'm scared.
The waiting game is so hard but don't panic and keep on breathing. Let us know what you find out.

I get wierd lumps with no fluid in them. My doc says it is subcutaneous scar tissue. It's like gristle. I have to have them removed eventually even though they don't hurt or itch or anything just because they grow. They continue to get bigger and bigger and they look bad. Otherwise they are harmless.

Thanks for all your support ladies. I went to the imaging place today. After a very loooooonnnngggg wait, they finally took me. The technician doing the scan told me that she had never done a foot before and wasn't really sure what she was looking at or if it was normal, so she did the other foot for comparisan which looked exactly the same. At that point since she still wasn't sure of herself she said that she was going to get the doctor on duty to come take a look. She came in and looked at both feet with the ultrasound wand. She said that lump was in fact muscle, not a cyst which is why my doctor wasn't able to extract anything and why the needle hurt so much. She said that it was basically a knotted muscle and that it was nothing to be concerned with. She even showed me pictures of what a cyst and other things look like in an ultrasound image. I feel much better now and I want to thank all of you for your kind words while I was having my freak-out.
I'm glad it turned out okay. Sounds to me like you need a good foot massage to work on that muscle knot.
