Default Cyster sighting

I was so happy to spot a fellow cyster serving me at the Clinique counter today. I stopped by for new makeup. She was quite pretty, with the classic symptoms - weight, facial hair. She must have been bleaching, because it was there, but noticeable probably only to me. I was so proud to see her put herself in a public job like that with such confidence. I didn't have the nerve to say anything, so if you're out here - good for you - you look great, and thanks for the help!

Wait, wait, wait a minnit! There are lots of reasons for a woman to be overweight or to have a little facial hair!!!! Not everyone we see with this physical profile has PCOS!

I'm glad you didn't say anything, because it is the absolute height of rudeness, and maybe cruelty, to make an assumption and discuss something about someone's health based on their physical appearance.

But I DO appreciate how you're applauding someone who doesn't fit the "classic" profile of someone working the beauty counter, and doing it with style and confidence. I totally agree with you on that.

Yikes - I didn't say I was going to diagnose her - I was going to share why I buy the heavy duty concealer, and let it go from there. Never mind - it was all about seeing her doing her job so well and with such confidence.

I don't think in any way she was saying she was going to front her out about it. I make the same assumptions when I see ladies in public or television that have the tell-tale signs. I'm sure we all do. I just hope they know about this wonderful supportive board. If I was ever going to say anything to a woman who I think has PCOS, I would do what she said, tell her about me and my problems and solutions and see how it goes. Like her, I would never hurt anyone feelings. All she was saying was that she admired her for working in such an idustry with facial hair, that has to be hard. With as many women who have this, you are going to see lots of people who have the symptoms. Not to say that they all have PCOS but it is almost impossible for the idea not to run across you mind. Hugs

Not all of us have the same symptoms, so sometimes it's hard to tell. I worked with a woman for a year before we discovered during a conversation that we both had it. We're both kinda apple-shaped, but that was the only noticeable symptom--I didn't see anything that would give it away about her, and while I do have thinning hair on top of my head and hair on my face and arms, I typically pluck or use depilatories on my face, and I guess she didn't notice my thin hair as much as I do. So neither of us were really recognizable as cysters. But when I see a larger lady with a mustache, I automatically wonder if she's heard of PCOS.

I think that it feels good to see others with PCOS. I don't mean that in a negative way, but seriously cysters!! I was so scared when I was diagnosised. I thought I was a freak, I did'nt know anyone with this! When I found this site I gained more confidence knowing that I'm not alone in this day to day battle.
