my husband has cystic acne... he gets large grape sizes cysts under his arms, groin area and on his back..occasionally on his face. I'm not sure what causes it but his mother has it too. so far the only thing that has helped has been switching to cetaphil antibacterial soap, it has really slowed it. oh and the worst part is when the pop or he squeezes them because the bleed and get really gross. not to be too graphic but i've seen it hit the wall. sorry tmi.

Cystic acne is basically acne that becomes very large and boil like, similar to a cyst. They are very painful...my sister gets them. I got them for a short while when I was using liquid scented soaps with a sponge during showers. My dermatologist told me to only use Dial antibacterial soap (the bar). I use it on my face (it is rather harsh so find some oil free lotion, I use MaryKay) and everywhere else. I quit getting them and really my acne became less and less to the point I rarely get a pimple. Try the Dial. I've told other people before who have had acne problems and they have been amazed. It is harsh and can dry you out, by I would prefer to need lotion then to have acne.
