Default Cystic acne help?

Hello!

I used to post reguarly on this board, but after seeing an endo, getting my weight down, and being on glucophage I was able to get my symptoms pretty much under control. I stopped the glucophage because I was having stomach problems, but things were still doing pretty well. But I've let my weight creep back up, and broke the magic number that's the border between having symptoms and not.

I know the only long term cure is getting my weight back down, and I'm working on that. But in the meantime, the one symtpom that is driving me nuts more than any other is the return of my acne! I'm one of those "lucky" people who had acne since I was probably 8, and continued to have it well into my mid-twenties. Things finally started clearing up in the past few years, but now it's back!

I've got the nasty, huge, cystic acne on my jawline, right around my mouth, and on my neck. It's driving me nuts because they hurt, and because they look rather unprofessional (I don't wear makeup because it irritates my skin too much, and because I don't like it. But these would be hard to conceal anyway.)

Does anyone have some good advice for helping cystic acne spots dry out and heal up faster?

Have you talked to your endo about perhaps trying Spiro? I hear a lot of women have sucess with it clearing them up. With Yaz and Met my cystic acne has calmed down but I still get it here and there so I'm starting on a low dose of Spiro 25mg...I hear 100mg is when women see a change.

Ive said it before..but Solodyn is the best thing EVER. I had horrible acne for like 10 years, Im 24. I dont have any pictures of it at my worst, because 1)i hated myself and my looks and 2) i didnt want anyone taking pictures when I was broken out. Now..ive lost weight..and cleared up..and I love this pill. Its expensive...and most insurance will cover it. If not, your Derm can give you free samples (the drug company that makes it wants people to have this drug for nothing...they pick up $105 of the cost that my insurance wont cover). Im posting pics..my before and after. Theres like 2 1/2 years difference here..the first will be before I lost weight and solodyn...like I said..I didnt want pics taken w/ my face broken out...so this was me when I was "cleared up" back then..and the 2nd is last week...

Thanks to both of you for the suggestions! I'll keep those in mind if I can't get this back under control with getting my weight down. But at the moment I'm really looking for more short term solutions - I know if I drop about another 5 pounds I should be back into ok range for symptom management.(I'm a "thin cyster", so it doesn't take much to nudge me over the line, but the good flip side is that it doesn't take much to bring me back down either!) But while I'm bringing that back down, it'd be nice to find something over the counter or topical that would at least keep the zits from hurting every time I accidentally touch that spot on my face!

Thanks for the suggestions - if I can't get my symptoms reigned back in on my own soon, I'll definitely be visiting the endo again.
