I having been having very sharp, stabbing like pains in my left ovary. I went to the gyn today, and they think it might be a cyst. But they can't feel anything. I am having a u/s done tomorrow to see if they can see anything, it's the first u/s since being diagon. I am a little worried. I was just wondering who out there has cysts, and what are done about them? I don't think that I can just "deal" with the pain, it freakin hurts!

I have had cysts, many actually. Some of them I can just take over the counter pain meds and put ice over my ovaries and wait until the skin is completely numb. However, I have had about 3 cysts that were so horrible that I had to go to the ER. Each time they gave me some very strong pain meds in an IV to make me comfortable and then did an ultrasound. After the results come back that it was a cyst, they gave me some prescriptions for some pain meds and let me go home. This last time I had to go to the ER, I couldn't even move I was in so much pain. My mother gave me two of her prescription pain meds for her bad hips, and even that didn't do anything. I had to be taken to the hospital in an ambulence.
Keep in mind, the only time that I feel any pain from them is when they rupture. The last cyst that I got was a pretty large one, and I was having cramps for about three days prior to it bursting, I think it was because it was growing so large that it started to hurt just from the size alone.
There isn't anything that the doctors can do other than to give you pain meds and wait for the cyst to rupture and dissipate. I know it sucks, but it's true.
I currently have a "functional" cyst on my right ovary. This is the kind of cyst that occurs when your ovary is trying to ovulate but the egg can't release. It sounds like a PCOS cyst, but it's different. I think think this is the kind of cyst your talking about?
Mine was discovered via u/s (not transvaginal) and was 4.13cm X 2.98cm. My doctor put my on BCPs to help shrink it. She said that they usually regress on their own or with BCPs. If they are too large, don't regress, or twist, they may require surgery. My doc said it takes months for it to go away on it's own but as long as it's shrinking slowly, it's fine. Generally, it seems to be one of those things they just keep an eye on.
(((HUGS)))I'm sorry about the pain. I know how much it stinks. Before my cyst was diagnosed, I remember taking my friend to the airport and thinking I was going to die. I was doubled over in pain. Then a few weeks later, I was walking the dog and had pain and nausea. I thought for sure the cyst had ruptured or twisted, but the doc got me in the next day to check it out. It had gotten a little smaller, but didn't break or twist. I don't want to know what a ruptured or twisted cyst feels like if that was one of the worst pains I've ever had!
I took Advil or extra strength Tylenol to help with the pain, and I also put my heating pad to use.
Hope you feel better soon!

Wendy~ I feel for you and I hope you find something out soon!
As for me, I have two large cysts on my right ovary as the result of overstimulation from Repronex. I think they may have ruptured though because I had cramps and light bleeding.. I had a baseline u/s last week and after the exam it hurt up there, maybe from poking around, haha.

Finally! Someone who has the same as me!!!!! I know I have PCOS. I will go a couple months without any pain and then *WHAM* I am doubling over and hurting so bad I can't stand. And OTC pain meds do NOT help me at all. I usually take a percocet to take the edge off, but it always comes back. Mine is all on my right side. As far as what else to do, I don't know. Today was a bad day so I was walking around with the top 2 buttons of my jeans undone just to be comfortable.

Ahhh, the pain of cysts! The way this whole thing started for me was because I was having pain. My dr. couldn't feel a cyst, so I had an u/s. As it turned out, both ovaries were COVERED in cysts. Yipee! The next u/s, I had one larger one on my left and some smaller ones on my right. Haven't gotten the last results yet to see how they've changed. I get a lot of my pain on the right side, where the smaller ones are. My dr. put me on naproxen for daytime pain (it at least helps me to function somewhat!) and Vicodin for the unbearable pain. Sometimes it will take an hour to kick in while I'm crying and mutilating DH's hand. There's been times I can't stand up straight for a day or two. Unless it's a large cyst that is causing pain or it's twisted, there isn't much they can do other than pain meds. Sorry! I know that's not much help. I wish you the best of luck.
how can you tell when a cyst burst is there symptoms or discharge? I had an U/s but there werent any cycst present. Sometimes i will get shoot pain in one of my ovaries or it will switch from side to side. Sometimes it feels like someone twisted my ovary- is that a signof cyst? My boss said she knows when she has one because she can feel it by toucing the area by pressing on her ovaries(not vaginally on the skin surface)
