I take synthroid, but it isn't helping me at all. I have heard that cytomel works well for some people.
I can take 2mg of synthroid and it does NOTHING for me. |

Cytomel (t3) is much shorter acting than Synthroid (t4) so it is rarely prescribed as the sole source of thyroid hormone supplement.
If the dose on Synthroid that you are on now isn't working, you may need to up your dose. Some people do find that having that extra boost of t3 can make the difference though.

I took synthroid for years until I heard about Armour and found an endo to prescribe it for me. I took armour for about 5 yrs and recently switched back to synthroid with cytomel because my levels were all over the place for a long time on armour. If this doesn't work I figure I can go back to armour. I take the cytomel twice a day. I get my levels checked next week.

My Mood: Points: 10,366.41 Bank: 1,561.95 Total Points: 11,928.36 | I'm on levoxyl (levothyroxine) and a little bit of cytomel per day. I had requested the cytomel because I was still feeling fatigued (esp. in the morning). When I added cytomel, my Dr. lowered my daily levoxyl slightly so I wouldn't be overmedicated because Cytomel is approx. 4 times as potent as levothyroxine...you need less.
There has been modest improvement in energy since I started on cytomel in May...but I've had a few other health issues that also have been treated in that time frame. It may or may not have been the cytomel, but I'm sticking with it for now.
