Unhappy cytomel and weight gain--HELP

I was taking cytomel and I lost about 10 lbs then all of a sudden I gained it back plus. This was the first time I have ever been able to lose weight. I did not change my eating--I am so frustrated what happended? Then cytomel started making me real moody too. I went and had my blood tests and everything was fine-- Do I need to change meds? Is this supposed to happen like this-does thyroid medicine make you gain weight?

Thanks for any help

Patti

I noticed that no one has answered your question yet but i have looked at other posts on other boards and normally the weight gain comes when you take doses above 50mg a day. Some people have said they have lost weight the first 2 weeks they were on the meds and started gaining (keep in mind they were on a high dose). I have a prescription for this med aswell but haven't taken it yet because I am afraid it's going to cause me to have panic attacks. my doctor said this would help me with my moods and hairloss...all I wanted was spiro

Patti, I'm on a tiny dose of cytomel that I take in addition to levothyroxine. I haven't noticed any change in weight (I'm significantly overweight). What I have heard is that some people on thyroid meds may have an increased appetite that would counter the increased metabolism. That may not be what's going on with you, but I imagine it could happen so gradually that a person doesn't notice. Then you end up weighing more, like any of us need that!
