Default Cytotec

Hi, yesterday I was given Cytotect for a missed miscarriage. I did start miscarrying at home 10 days ago. I am still bleeding and after 2 exams and one u/s yesterday, it was confirmed that I have not passed everything. There is a little something left. So I was sent home with Cytotec. Doctor wanted to do a D&C, but I refused. If nothing happens I need a D&C by Monday though. I am terriefied of that.

I took the Cytotec at 7:00 pm last night. It's now 10:00 am and nothing has happened. My doctor did say that it shouldn't be too painful, nothing like what I experienced 10 days ago, because I've already passed almost everything. Since there is only a little something left, it won't be that bad. So my bleeding stopped just before I took the pills - doesn't that figure. I assumed it would have already kicked in. Doctor told me to call her around lunch time today, as everything should have passed. But nothing has happened.

Anyone else experience this? SHouldn't it have already started to work by now - 14 hours after taking the pills?

I did the D and C last friday-it was great, if that makes sense/. NO pain and I know my uterus is cleaned out and can heal. I think it lessens the risk of infection and it guarantees you have removed everything. I wish you luck but I wanted tot ell you my D and C was painful(emotionally) but I am healing really well and no bleeding.

I took Cytotect for my first miscarriage back in 11/2208(10 weeks). I recently had a chemical pregnancy which I lost naturally (March 2009). Although I found the medication experience to be painful, I was glad I didn't need to have a D&C. I took the medication (inserted vaginally) around 1pm and nothing happened until 6-7 pm when I started some mild cramping. Around 8pm the cramps became more severe, and at that time I took the Ibuprofen 800 my MD ordered. At 10pm the pain stopped completely and I when I went to the restroom, I passed some clots and had increased bleeding. I went for a follow-up ultra-sound the next day and it was confirmed that I had passed everything.

I was told by the sonogram tech that it would have been more painful if I had not taken the medication, so I was really frightened when I was told that I was going to have to let my period just start on it's own with my most recent loss. My MD told me it would only be slightly heavier then a normal period, and he was right. I had some very mild cramping and no real pain. I assume that may be because the loss was so early--only 4 weeks.

I would assume that the medication you took would have started working by now. I would contact my MD and inform that you are having no response so he can advise you on what to do going forward. I am sorry for your loss and I hope you get it resolved soon.

Did you take it orally or vaginally?

I had to take it vaginally, before bed, and after 1/2 and hour I started cramping. They did tell me that if it didn't start working by the morning to take 2 more... but I didn't need to.

Have you called and asked your doctor about the situation?

I took it orally. still nothing has happened. I called yesterday and my doctor thought that maybe there wasn't anything left, and maybe that's why nothing has happened. She said to wait until I get my next beta test on Tuesday. Now, another doctor (today) thinks that it's not good and that I need a D&C! UGH!!! That's conflicting opinions in the same office. I told the doc that I spoke to today that I will wait to see what my betas look like on Tuesday (although I won't get my results until Thurs.). I will have yet another exam on Tuesday as well.

A week or so after my missed m/c my betas were 48,000. Tuesday they were 357.

Oh, and I have not bled/spotted anything since my exam & u/s on Tuesday. They also yanked something out that they assume was tissue. What a horrible exerience that was!!! So, I'm thinking/hoping that it's all out now. One doctor agrees and the other doesn't. Yesterday was the 1st day in about 10 weeks that I haven't bled/spotted. I spotted the entire pregnancy. So that is a very GOOD sign!

Thanks for all the responses.
