Default Cytotec and stomach tenderness - please help!

Hello all, maybe someone can help with this PLEASE...

I had a miscarriage in October, and I went through the process of taking Cytotec. It hurt like hell during the climax of the process, and ever since then the lower left side of my stomach area has been very tender, with a slight dull pain. I went to the doctor yesterday to report the problem. I thought it was my uterus, but the nurse advised me that where I pointed at was my stomach (I thought it was the left side of my uterus). While the doctor did an internal examination and an ultrasound, he said that my uterus and cervix looked fine and clear after the miscarriage, as if everything was empty after the miscarriage. He even said he didn't see any cysts on my ovaries after I asked him if he saw the classic "PCOS chain" during my ultrasound. That may make sense since I've been on Metformin for about a year now and have been eating healthier, losing weight, etc.

Has anyone else experienced this type of tenderness/dull pain after the Cytotec, or other miscarriage methods? If so, when does this go away? I've been dealing with this for about 3 months now Or maybe it's the sign of a really bad side effect from the Cytotec?

Thanks!

I had 5 doses of cytotec over 3 days just last week but none of them started labour for me (I was in my 2nd trimester) so I ended up getting a D and E. So I don't have an answer for you but I would say it is probably not related to the cytotec. It may be a new problem though and it needs to be checked out. Was your doctor going to do any other tests?

Thanks for the reply. I had four doses of cytotec over 2 days, and the very first morning the labour started. Excruciating pain.

I do believe that the cytotec process at least started the area to feel tender and a bit bruised. I should note that the area I am feeling the tenderness seems to be the same place where my nurse said the baby had implanted itself. It's the same spot that I felt the tingling sensations, contractions, etc when I was pregnant. But during the cytotec process this is the area where I felt the most sharpest pain, and after the process I felt the tenderness even when I walked. It's like I was beat up inside and never healed fully.

How far along were you? Maybe you should seek a 2nd opinon.

Sorry for the late reply. I was 6 weeks when the baby miscarried, but they didn't diagnose it 'till 9 weeks. I'm going to give it another month, and if I still feel this "weirdness", I'm going to my general doctor I guess for a stomach ultrasound.

Wish me luck, but if anyone else has dealt with something similar, please give ur advice or anything that might help!

Thanks,

-Spritestar

Keep me updated on what happens. I think it's a good idea to check in with your regular doc.

If the pain is that low it could be your colon/intestine? I don't think an abdominal u/s looks at those organs. I'm assuming you m/c naturally, otherwise I'd say they might have damaged that area if they had done a lap.

Also, sometimes you feel pain in a certain area, and it's coming from somewhere else. The body is weird like that.

I hope it goes away soon.

You know, I've been starting to think this as well. Maybe it is my colon intestine, because there is so much activity going on in this area because of the Metformin! Even the doctor said that there is alot of activity going on in that region during the vaginal ultrasound. I just wonder, how can the miscarriage affect this area? Or why was I feeling this area so much when I was pregnant?

Today and yesterday the intensity wasn't so bad, even though I do feel it all the time still. It just sucks when I work out and I sometimes fear that maybe I'm screwing up that area when I do cardio or something. But all I do is cycling so I'm sitting down just like I do at my desk, so I don't think it should hurt this area.

Thanks for the responses ladies!

I've read that rises/dips in certain hormones can have an effect on the bowels during or around pregnancy. Maybe this is why you noticed it. I'm glad it's starting to get a little easier for you. I don't think the cardio has any negative effect, but if you are feeling sore, maybe taking a few days off will help?
