Unhappy D&C issues (bit of a long message!)

Hello to all SC on here,

This is a great forum - seems really supportive which is why I'm posting this concern...
I have all the usual delights of PCOS including long term heavy periods. My GP has sent me for a D&C to see whats going on etc etc. I have been diagnosed for 15 years and this is the first time a D&C has been suggested.

I am really concerned that I am putting myself at risk by having this op because
a) I am obese at the moment
b) I have a history of surgical uterine haemoraging
c) I am taking anti depressants that also thin my blood!!

Does anyone have experience of this kind of issue? In the past, I have managed to lose almost all the weight I needed to and my symptoms all but vanished - including the period problems. For the first time ever, I had light bleeding, for around 5 days, every fourth week!!!!

Should I risk the op or should I just carry on trying to lose the weight again?

I know that having PCOS means I am at some risk of uterine cancer, but I'm just as concerned about the risk factors in the op itself.

I had no intention of waffling on this much - it's surprising how a supportive atmosphere can make a girl talk!! Sorry!

I do not have the blood problems...but my D & C was very uneventful. I had it done on a Friday and by the time the sedatives wore off...I was fine. It was like a heavy period...not even the heaviest I've had. I've NEVER had a period on my own...I take provera to induce one every 3 months. I'd ask the dr what he recommends...he should be able to tell you something. Good luck!

Hi i had a d&c 2 yrs ago but mine was for a blighted ovum (non viable pregnancy) it was pretty straightforward when i woke up i was fine, had a sore tummy and heavy bleeding but it was just like period pain. I think the results from d&c are temporay if its for heavy periods but ive never researched that in any great detail, i noticed a difference for a few months afterwards but then they went back to my usual heavy flow. I had my d&c at around 13 and half stone and they never weighed me or even ask my weight, but u should try to loose what u can whilst ur waiting - if ur doc refered u for this then he must have a fair idea what ur weight is anyway, also ur doc knows what medications u are on, they will go into every little detail of ur health medications etc before u go ahead with it. You should speak to ur consultant about any queries u have then u can make an informed descion about having the procedure or not

hope this helps and good luck xxx

Thanks everyone - your reponses have been really helpful. I've made the decision to wait a few months and lose as much weight as I can (sensibly!) as well as finish coming off the tablets. Should put me in a much better place to have it done.

Thanks again!

Ever Hopeful have you discussed with your doctor how long the waiting list is? It may be worth getting yourself on it now whilst losing weight etc in the mean time. Hope it goes well
