First and foremost, I have nothing to do with this company and know nothing about them.
Earlier this year I emailed New Zealand Pharmaceuticals regarding their production of D-chiro-inositol. I asked if they sold to the public, and they said no. I just received this email today:

Hello Ms. ******,
If you are receiving this email, you have probably contacted New Zealand Pharmaceuticals in the past about purchasing d-chiro-inositol. While they do not sell DCI to the general public, my company Chiral Balance LLC does. Please visit our website for more information about the product, company and ordering. www.chiralbalance.com
Thanks for your time,

The ****** I put in there to replace my name. Anyway, I haven't really looked over the site, but the home page looks interesting...
I am forwarding for info purposes only...

The studies are very interesting and what is even more interesting is that if supplementing with vitamins helps relieve symptoms of pcos (especially B vit) then I would reason that taking the pill actually hinders the healing process in the long run ( although giving a false indication of improvement for some) because the pill actually leaches the body of many vitamines and trace minerals..............hmmm just something to think about...maybe
Just want to point out that a one month's supply is $75. Ugh!

Just want to offer an update concerning the price of DCI at the Chiral Balance website. A PCOS friend of mine wrote to the company commenting about the high price, and also asking if those who follow a low-carb diet might be able to take a lower dose of DCI, thus reducing the monthly cost somewhat (the DCI study participants were not following a low-carb diet). Here is Travis Johnson's reply to her:
Actually, I share your concern about the price. We actually have
less than 100% mark-up, which is really really low for retail sales. Let me
reassure you that the ease of making something does not recapitulate
its cost. This stuff is expensive to make. That being said, when we have
amortized our investment and the cost to us comes down, I intend to
lower the price - hopefully to a price that makes it more affordable for more
women. I think the most change we will see is a 10-15% decrease in
costs to us and to the customer over the next several months. I really do want to help folks with PCOS. Two of my cousins have PCOS and I see how it hurts them.
As far as your other questions. The women in the studies were not
diet controlled during the trials and were specifically asked not to change
their diet and exercise patterns during the study. So, I assume that
they were not on low-carb diets. I've heard anecdotal reports that make me
think that it is possible that having a low-carb diet might diminish the
effective dose. That is seemingly intuitive - you have less sugar to
dispose of, less insulin, and so use less DCI. However, that has never
been evaluated in a study.
Some women have had success taking large amounts of myo-inositol,
which is comparatively cheap and available in most health food stores.
You might also try pinitol, which I think is also less expensive and helps
some women. Dietary sources of DCI include soy-lecithin, buckwheat
ferrineta and carob. Unfortunately, these are also fairly carb-rich. Getting an
effective dose from food is difficult, but less expensive.
I hope some of this is helpful. Please check back with us in a few
months and the prices may be lower. I wish I could do more.
Sincerely,
Travis Johnson

Great! I plan on ordering at least one bottle this week. I hope it works!

Thanks for the info. I checked out Chiral balance. They're expensive. One bottle costs $75. I prefer something other than pills - the Buckwheat farinetta from Minndak is excellent. I tried it for the first time today. I made two fajitas out of half a cup, crumbled them into pieces and poured soup over it. Tasted great!
Besides, the pills don't have the essential fatty acids, the fiber, the protein, etc... that the natural stuff (Buckwheat farinetta) has.
Now I don't want to sound negative, but I've worked in retail in management on down and this worries me a bit:

First of all "Mark up" =Pure Profit. Meaning after all the costs of manufacture, delivery, etc. have been added in, the "mark up' is the actual profit you make off of each unit. Perhaps he just doesn't know vocabulary, or??? Forgive me, but I'm a born skeptic and tend to be negative... those sound like weasel words to me. Although the way he uses "recapitulate" makes me wonder if English is his primary language and that might explain a few things.
And if 100% mark-up was really, really low for retail sales you'd be paying $200 or more for that pack of toilet paper at Wally World! Truth is, anywhere in the 20s is considered a "good to great" profit markup these days. Thirties is something to get excited about, and this is usually limited to "hot" items such as the holiday's hottest (and hardest to get) toys. 100% and managers would be keeling over in ecstacy!! It just doesn't happen outside of luxury sales. Even prescription drugs in the US tend not to have that kind of mark up due to constant FDA regulations, inspection, and the like that eat into profit.
Don't want to be a wet blanket, just want to send a note of caution!
Dana

DesertRose, is it too soon to ask about your progress? I hope it is good news!

Hi,
I am new to this site, but not new to PCOS. I have been on Met off and on for about two years. I have been completly off for about 6 months because the Met give me anemia. I just ordered some DCI to add to what I am already taking and will talk with my endo about it when I go. I'm hoping it will help witht he insulin! Has anyone not on met started it yet? If so any news?
Michelle
okay, so here is my update:
this is my 3rd cycle on DCI and I think my cycles are more "normal" than before :o)
I am a thin cyster and never had fertile cm in my life ... but once I started taking the DCI, I got EW cm and a healthy 10 mm lining at ovulation (confirmed by a mid-cycle ultrasound).
Now the only thing is that I also started taking NAC at the same time, so I don't know if it's the DCI, the NAC or both, that is helping my cycles.
I am planning to keep on taking it!
Anybody else currently on it?

Hey, you KNOW I want to know what your lining was before! What else are you taking, may I ask--anything to induce ovulation?
Thanks for sharing your experience. Since I'm spending big bucks on meds anyway, I'd LOVE to find some solutions (especially while I'm stuck on BCP) to thicken my lining.
