Default D&e?

Hello everyone, unfortunately I'm getting a D&E sometime next week. We just found out today that our blessing had died on Monday when I was 16 wk and 1 d along. We're trying to be optimistic and just look forward to the future. I had some questions though about the procedure as far as what to expect, any pain after, the amount of bleeding and length of time and when I could start TTC again. I know I've read that I can after a few "normal" cycles. But I don't have normal cycles so I guess I'll be calling that GYN for prometrium again. Thanks for your help and support!

I didn't have one, so I can't help you there...

But I wanted to let you know that I am so sorry for your loss.

I didn't have a D & E I had a D & C.. I don't know if the TTC time is different but I had my D & C sept 24 and still have not gotten AF.. I never have natural cycles and this whole year I think I got my period once back in Feb. My doc wants me to wait till Dec to get a natural cycle before even prescribing Prometrium and then I have to wait till Jan to start TTC again. So 3 months.. I dunno if your gonna be the same lots of women are told different things though

Hi Roxy I am so sorry for what you are going through, every ones body is different as with the pain after mine I felt fine physically but emotionally I was all over the place most doctors suggest waiting about 3 cycles after a D&E because it tends to thin out your lining leaving a bigger door for a M/C. Your doctor will tell you exactly when you can start TTC again depending on what procedures are done.

I wish you well and will pray for you and for your little angel.

Angie

Roxy, I am sorry I don't have any info regarding D&Es, but I did want to tell you how sorry I am for your loss.

Roxy - I am so very sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you.

I don't know if there is a difference between a d&e or d&c, but I have had 2 d&c's (suction), with the most recent one last week Wednesday. I was 9w3d with the last one I had (10w the first one). There really is very little pain associated with the procedure and in my case, I was completely drugged up so I don't remember a thing (which is the way I wanted it). Afterward, my doctor basically just told me I have to take it easy. Apparently if you don't rest for the next several days the bleeding can get much worse. Both times, I had little bleeding for the first several days and then spotted on and off for the next 1.5 weeks. And has been true for me, the more I move around, the more I bleed and the more cramps I end up getting. So I stay home from work for 1 week after the procedure.

The first d&c, I did not get my period for 7 weeks, went to the doctor and she gave me provera to start my period. That worked, but then 2 weeks later I go what I believe was my "real" period. I don't know if provera helped this come on or if I would have eventually gotten this period without it. But the wait was torture. I really am hoping I don't have to wait that long after this miscarriage.

Regarding TTC, my doc said to wait 3 cycles. I didn't cause I had read many other places you are good to TTC after one cycle and actually are more fertile after d&c so I didn't see the reason to pass up on this opportunity. Turns out I had a chemical preg 4 months after d&c (my second cycle) and then got pregnant again the next cycle - which is now ending in m/c. We will probably start TTC again as soon as I get my period.

I am so sorry for your loss and that you have to go through this.

D&C is dilation & curettage (scraping out with spatula like device) D&E is dilation & extraction (done with vacuum like device). I just had a D&E on tuesday. I m/c'd at 11w6d. I was put out with general anesthesia, don't remember anything, and had no pain. when I woke up in recovery, i was bleeding as expected, with mild cramping. just 2 days afte,r i have no cramping and am barely spotting. as for ttc, opinions run the gambit. I would just listen to your dr.

my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

I had a d & e , I'd already had an epideral in from labor so I was awake for the whole thing. No pain afterwards, not physically anyway. I'm so sorry for your loss, I know EXACTLY what you are feeling, take care of yourself. It's taken 6 months for us to get pg again, we started 2 months after we lost her. PM me if you need to talk.

Peace for you and your family

Thank you ladies for your support! My OB said today that I could start TTC after my first cycle or 4 wks which ever comes first. I'm feeling much better today than yesterday and realize how great it is to have such supportive friends, family and cysters! I plan on taking my DD trick or treating tomorrow so I hope it's not too bad. I declined any pain meds. I'm optimistic that every day will keep getting better and better. This weekend I'm going to get a forget me not flower to remember my little bebe. Thanks again! :hugs:
