I just wanted to announce I'm a diabetic. My 15 hour fasting blood sugar level was 262. That is not good. I was barely pre diabetic 6 months ago and I've lost 20 lbs since then and am eating right and I'm still freaking diabetic. Sorry about the mini rant. I just want to cry. On a good note, my doc agrees metformin should be used to help me ovulate, and to take care of the diabetes, so she is just going to start me on 500mg x 1 wk, then up to 1000mg for a month and if no side effects were pumping it up so that I will lose weight more easily, control diabetes and ovulate, otherwise she might stop at 1,000 for my new diabetes she said.
I always love my cysters, but I didn't think I'd be joining this section- yet- even though I knew I was predisposed, I thought it took a long time to go from pre (blood sugars were 110 fasting 6mos ago) to this high of a number (262)!
Sorry to hear you are diabetic, I also found out a couple of months ago now. I have to wait 4 months in the UK for a definate confirmation and during that wait I changed all my diet and dropped 22lbs and I still turned out to be type 2... I was not pleased, but I am just coming to turns with it now.... I THINK!
For posting about your experience because its so weird to lose weight and then find out you are diabetic, it makes it harder to accept than it already is. It helps to know someone else has been there, done that.
Are things controlled for you now? I just started my metformin yesterday.
Hi Julie! I'm sorry. I was diagnosed almost a year ago. It can be frustrating, but it got easier. Met has been great for me. It lowered my fasting sugar from 297 when I was diagnosed to 170. And I haven't changed my diet all that much. Plus, I now get regular periods. I haven't had regular periods since I was 16. And the best part is I haven't gained a pound while on just Met, in fact I lost weight. When you feel like ranting or crying - do it! Don't hold back. You'll feel better.

Thank you all so much for your kind welcome and letting me rant as I introduced myself lol.
Thradia- lovin' the dark side reference thanks for the smile!!
cutiesbaby- I actually just cut out pop altogether and drank more water and lost the 20lbs before I started WW. I've lost 3.4 lbs so far. My next weigh in (WI for short) is next Tuesday. I haven't done the IR or GI diet, but some of those tricks will probably be factored in once I see the dietitian they referred me to next week, and boy I imagine the weight will just start dropping (ok I fantasize it does anyway)!!
Disco- I had been on met (regular) in 1999 for 3 weeks w/ severe runs if you know what I mean and had to quit it, then in 2002 I was on it for 6 months since they now have XR I was fine then but then I left the job I was in and didn't have health/rx insurance until now and so now I'm back on 500mg once a day for a week then will go up to twice a day and if I tolerate that, my doc is going to up it again so I get the most bang for my buck (lose weight, control diabetes, and start ovulating). Since losing the 20lbs, I have had almost regular periods, so I know this will help more. I was vomiting/diarrhea sick yesterday and had started met the evening before, so it may have had something to do with it, but I did take it again last night and seem fine today so far. Now I'm constipated for a change lol!!
Well that was TMI enough for now!!
Thank you all again, if we have to be in this boat, might as well be in good company!
