I am not sure if this has been posted yet or not, but I was wondering since most people (insluding myself) with pcos get dark spots on neck, vaginal area, or thighs, are there any treatments? I have very dark skin on my upper thighs and I would love to lighten it. If anything has helped you I would LOVE to know!
Im like you too Bethany I have dark skin on my thighs but the worse one is on my neck it just looks like a dirty mark !! grrr havent had it for long tho would love to know if there are any treatments for this.
I don't really have it on my neck too badly its pretty light, and my necklace covers it But my upper thighs are terrible it looks like a HUGE bruise Its a purple-brown color. Most times of the year no one can see it, but when I have the guts to put on a swim suit its right there.
I've been doing the IR diet for the past six weeks (not 100% mind you, but trying!) plus exercising 300 minutes a week and I've just noticed a difference in the skin on my knees. I wouldn't wear shorts I was so self conscious about them but it's lightening!! My mom just used to tell me to scrub more...ouch!

Dark skin patches show some amount of insulin resistance. I've heard it can improve sometimes if you fix the IR problem by dieting or metformin. If you're looking for another solution, I'm sure that some laser therapy at the dermatologist would help. I've always had dark skin on my knees and elbows, now it's my underarms and I guess my groin (my RE found) as well. Once when I was younger I rubbed a lemon on them and laid out in the sun. Not sure where I thought that would work, but it didn't.

I've been plagued with this (Acanthosis Nigricans *dark spots*) all my life and the only thing that changes the darkness of it is when my hormones level out for whatever reason. I know it gets darker in the winter.

I have it the worst on my thighs and underarms. I've tried skin lighting cream, but it didn't do to much. The year I made colorguard I went to a dermatologist to see if he could give any advice b/c i was really embarassed by it. He told me that I was fat and needed to put down the ice cream. I was 14 at the time! Anywho when I lost 20 pds it seemed to help. Sorry for rambling!

I have had dark patches on my elbows since I was 11 or 12 years old and everyone always told me to scrub and exfoliate. Nothing worked and they are still dark. I am in the process of being diagnosed with PCOS so I hopefully we can figure out what is wrong with me. I have been so frustrated by everything.
This sounds quite blunt, but i can't exfoliate my vagina lol. I have it there and my thighs too it just upsets me. Matmil9117 I can't believe they said that to you! But has the weight loss really helped. I have about 80-90 lbs to lose so it would be great if that helps!
I too have this problem! Mostly my inner thighs and underarms. I've lost 50 pounds or so.. mind you I still have another 30+ to go.. but I can say that it helped A LOT. 100% really..not 100% gone, but literally 100% better than before. Still embarrased in swimsuits, and won't wear tank tops or sleeveless anything... but, I probably could and no one would notice anymore.

I have the same problem on my neck, underarms, and inner thighs. I was dx with PCOS and IR in Aug. My dr knew as soon as she seen my neck that i was IR. She started me on Metformin 500mg, Yaz, and a low carb diet. I have already seen a difference.
I have AN on my inner thighs and my eyelids. I don't care about the inner thighs b/c I've been married a long time and who cares, but I hate the eyelid situation. Even when I was at my most fit/thinnest the problem was there. It never gets better or worse. The dermatologist did tell me to keep the sun out of my face b/c sun will make it worse. I also have a melasma on my forehead, but friends swear it's not noticeable. That's something I've only had for a few years (I'm 41). I always put sunscreen on and wear a hat -- it's at least not worsening.
I had a dark patch on my torse just under my breast and tried everything...tea tree oil,pure peroxide,all sorts of creams...but then i tried this cream called Daktarin & it worked!!! My dark patch & some other patches disappeared within days!!!
My hubby used to get this skin discolouring on his arms since he was in his teens & he was always told to use this wash/foam stuff but he never did it (too bloody lazy lol) & anyway,i went to get him some more & (from memory) the chemist told me they no longer sell it but showed me a cream that does the same thing...it cleared his skin up in no time & he has never had to use it since...i thought i'd give it a try & WOOHOO!
Im in Australia so im not sure if its a worldwide cream but its 'Daktarin' in a blue tube,not expensive at all...
The website says this;
Daktarin Cream is an antifungal cream effective for the treatment of athlete's foot, tinea, ringworm and thrush infections of the skin.
Dont let that put you off! lol Hope this helped
