Default Dark skin patches, will they eventually go away?

or will they atleast somewhat fade?

You mean like AN (acanthosis nigricans)? Mine got better as my insulin resistance improved - through diet and/or exercise and/or metformin.

Thumbs up

You can also buy a fade cream to help as well. I went out on a limb and bought some because I had some dark patches in some interesting and embarassing spots and it works pretty much the first time you use it. I used it once or twice daily for a little over a week and have not really used it since, and they have not returned. I'm glad it worked because even my friends and parents though I was "dirty" and never "washed" because in some spots it looks like a dirt ring when in fact it's not. And up until recently i didn't know it was a symptom of PCOS. The fade cream of which i have spoken may be found on drugstore.com and the brand is palmer's. Also, do you fellow dark-patchers find that: say you get a bug bite or you scrape your knee on something, do these heal up like a normal person does, or do the spots where you had the bug bite or scrape turn into hyperpigmented skin as well? I find that mine don't go away and it bugs me.

Viper-my bugbites (mosquitoes actually) turn a purpley color! I hate it! Does the palmer work on that too?

I'd like to know the actual name as well. I use witch hazel sometimes but it doesn't really work too well.

My bug bites/scratches/etc. all turn a purple color then fade to brown then eventually fade away, MOST OF THE TIME. But I do have a few places on m legs and arms where I know just have little brown spots.

Jeeeeez, I said palmer's make me get out the box why dontcha. Lol. The full name of the product is as follows: Palmer's skin success; eventone fade cream . I have the one for oily skin, and Idk how it works on the bug bites because I didn't apply it religiously there. TMI here probably, but on my chest right in between the twins I had always had a patch of hyperpigmented skin since I was like 12 years old. Used it on the back of my neck as well, not quite as religiously but it did fade it a bit. i hope it works for all of you as well! The brown in between the twins hasn't returned and it's been about a month since I used it last.

I have the hyperpigmented skin too. Darkest on the back of my neck and on my elbows. My parents were always telling me to go wash my knees and elbows when I was a teenager...they thought it was dirt and I would get upset because I would wash and wash and it wouldn't come off. It wasn't until I was around 20 my neck got it too. And now I am 24 and am getting it a little in between my "twins" as Viper said. I never thought about it before, but I do scar easy. Bug bites and even cuts will stay a darker color, but some will fade away eventually.

I will have to get some of the Palmer's cream. Like I mentioned before, I've always used witch hazel to help with my neck/chest and it doesn't help much. I sure hope this does.

Thank you Viper!

I got em on my knees, elbows and on my feet on the other side from where the ankles are. People always ask me if I have a bruise. It doesn't bother me though I just tell them that's the color of my skin. I don't care what people think about my appearance anymore, I am way past caring.

I had my hair up one time because it was REALLY hot outside and I was helping a neighbor with some stuff. She saw my neck and promptly went "oh my god what's wrong with your neck its one huge bruise" I was like don't worry thats just my skin. And for something else I had surgery on my right arm so i couldn't do the simplest of things for a few days... my mom had to wash my hair for me (ugh) and she saw it and was like "oh my god look at this neck of yours do you EVER wash it?" "yeah in fact sometimes I scrub until its about to bleed" "I highly doubt that, it's filthy." ---It's always either really dirty or bruised to people, so I just stopped putting my hair up.

That's the same with me, I even used to have darkened skin around ,my mouth and I hated that.

I have this on my neck and groin area also. But the place that I have always been so self conscious about is my underarms. They either look really dirty or hairy. I didn't wear sleeveless shirts until late in high school b/c I was so embarrassed. I read in magazines to exfoliate but of course I only got irritated. I will definitely try the Palmer's cream.
