I don't know anything about fish oil helping, beyond what is in the study.
Typically, you can get fish oil at any health food store. Just ask them to point out where it is in the store...there are many brands.

It's an insulin resistant/diabetes problem rather than a PCOS problem. Lots of men have this condition as well. It just turns out that a lot of PCOS women have insulin problems and therefore the acanthosis nigricans (AN).
It's stems from poor insulin utilization. Your pancreas produces insulin, but your cells fail to recognize it. Your pancreas produces more and more until finally the cells recognize the insulin and actually start to use it. However, all that excess insulin spills affects the skin and causes the darkened, thickened ridges. If it is truly AN, it really isnt' something that is successfully treated from the outside in (like creams, topical ointments, etc.) but rather the inside out.
Lots of women on this board have got their insulin levels balanced, lost weight, and had it completely disappear.

I have a dark splotch that occurs from time to time on the front of my neck, under my chin...the endo, in passing, said it could be from the PCOS, but never specifically said IR. Thanks for all the useful info - and it's nice to know that if I can get the IR under control, it won't come back!
Cinnamon! I take one capsule each morning and night. You can get them in the vitamin aisle. My underarm AN didn't respond to fish oil, Met., a better diet, loosing weight, but it started fading with cinnamon.
