It was the tale tell sign of darkened skin on my upper, inner thighs that clued me in to the fact that I had what I later in life discovered to be PCOS. Has anyone of you found any remedy for this? The skin is about 3-4 shades darker than the rest of my legs.
Metformin did it for me....I had the "spots" in quite a few "sweaty places" and I started metformin and 3 months later they were gone. I was lucky on that part some cysters don't notice much difference and some just a slight difference. Good luck...avoid the selsun blue "magical cure". It does not work.

Metformin did it for me as well - also taking between 2-3 month to completely disappear. Good luck!

I have this problem, also. I also get really irritated there, very itchy. I've been on 1700 mg of metformin for 7 months now and it hasn't helped. What else could help this problem? I ususally use hydrocortizone cream and powder, but they only provide temporary relief.
The skin on my inner thighs is slightly darker than on the back of my neck or arm pits. It has faded with diet on the neck and pits, so I am hoping that between the met and the saw palmetto that will take care of it as well.

i have dark patches around my breasts and on my chest, and some on my arms. i read it was a sign of early diabetes. my endocrinologist noted them down in my notes but didn't actually say anything about them. after my last glucose intolerance test it showed i was glucose intolerant. i don't know if that is the same as insulin resistant. no one really explained it to me.
some times the patches fade out but they always come back. i don't start on metformin till the end of november, so i guess we'll see if it helps.
Hm, wondering if getting on met alone will help me as well. I've had darker skin in my underarm and thigh area for a long time -- thought it was just genetic until recently my dr thought PCOS may be a problem. Still waiting on my first endo appt.

My sister has the spots also we were raised by different familes but are full sisters so it can be genetic (I'm adopted and she is not). I mentioned to her about the "spots" and she said her father told her it was "cancer" (he's a moron). She is going to have it checked out by a Dr. soon.

Hello everyone. I am new to this site and I have not yet been diagnosed with PCOS. I have a pituitary tumor called a macroadenoma which is secreting to much prolactin in my body causing irregular periods and infertility. I have suffered with a sharp pain on my right side for many years now. The pain is right in the crease of the leg and is extremely severe and sharp then goes away. I also have some hair growing on my chin and cheecks. I have complained about the pain and have had an US done. They didn't find cycst however they noticed extra fluid. I also get dark patches on my skin and after reading this info it makes me think that I do have PCOS as well. I will be scheduling an appointment to try and get a dx. The dark spots on the skin are usually around my belly and they look like small patchy bruises then they go away after about a week but always come back. Could these be the dark spots that everyone is talking about on here? Let me know your thoughts on this.

Your spots do not sound like AN (i can't spell it but its something to the effect of Arciniognas Niagers?) it is generally classified as "spillover" of insulin onto the skin and they generally do not fade on a week to week basis. I would think you should mention those spots to your Dr.
The spots we are discussing are brown and tend to look more birth marky if that makes sense. Good luck I hope everything works out for you!

I have this exact same symptom! Hasn't been itchy lately, I don't know why. My thighs have been like this for a long time. For years, as a teen, I kept telling my primary care physician that something was wrong and he said i was okay. I'm dumping him. There is no point in staying faithful to the same dr. if he is not on his job. I guess I was just a patient/case number. Now I must find a PCOS knowledgeable primary care physician in the Cleveland area.
