Positives about PCOS:

We are alerted to the body's need for healthy food and periodic doctor visits.

More is known now about PCOS than in the past, so young girls can be started off on a healthy diet early on. Kids without PCOS in their family history wouldn't show signs of bad health from bad eating, sedentary lifestyle, etc., until much later in ife.

Diabetes is up in the US. At least us cysters get cheked for it and often are on Met. or similar meds.

A battery-operated men's electric razor is completely safe for even younger girls and it avoids the stigma of being "the girl with the moustache." I didn't have to start shaving till I was 13, but it was such a tremendous relief to be no longer "the girl with the moustache."

jashobeam,
thanks for explaining the hair thing for me...i was wondering about that and i knew that the hair loss on the head was related to too much testosterone, so i just figured the *early* growth was related too. i knew leg, arm, and stomach wasn't related either, but it's helpful for me to know that distinction.

joyblack,
do you know of a good razor that would get a close shave that doesn't leave that stubbly shadow soon after shaving?? i'd love to try one out if it can still leave a clean and close shave for at least a day or so. i have hair on my cheeks and throat even so it would be all over, lol.

as for the positives of pcos:

--for some cysters with higher testosterone, it is easier to put on muscle when exercising, which can help the body burn more calories (among other healthful benefits)
--for some cysters, there can be an increased sexual-related positives
--my own opinion..as cysters, by the nature of the symptomatology, we end up being more attuned to our bodies.
