Cool day 3 and still OK.

Well ladies, I have been on the Metformin for 3 days now. I have been a little nauseated on and off, but nothing too bad. I also had a bit of diarrhea, but it has passed. Everything I have been reading tells me this is too good to be true. I am a bit scared. Will it get worse as I continue to take it. I take 1 500mg @ night, after 7 days i will go up to 100mg, then by week 3 I will be at 1500mg each night at dinner time. Does this sound right. I really don't want to get sick. What do you all think?

Hey! Your dosage sounds similar to mine. Right now I am on 1000 mg, until next week when I up it to 1500. Anyway, I was just like you, a little nauseaous that first week, nothing bad, practically nothing at all as far as side effects go with the 500 mg dosage. Then when I upped it to 1000, I felt it more. It made me a little more prominently nauseaous and tired during the day. But after about 5-6 days of that, I am ok again! I think when I up to 1500, it will happen again and then your body gets used to it.

Good for you that you are tolerating it well!

Danndie- I've been on 500 XR for 11 days now-taking with dinner (during my meal)- I feel lucky like you. I had some heatburn, soime trips to the bathroom and very tired for 4 days but on the 5th, I felt much better. I will be upping to 1000 this weekend and then 1500 in 2 more weeka- that's how my endo prescribed it-2 weeks at a time. Hoping my luck holds out when I increase it again. Mary Kay

^^MIne prescribed mine 2 weeks at a time, too, except for week one at 500 mg. That was the easiest week so far. I feel lucky, too, after hearing so many nightmare-ish stories.

Thanks for the support. I am pretty queezy this morning, but I think it is better than it was an hour ago. I have to work Monday-Friday, 8-5. So I just can't be sick anymore. Maybe I am willing myself not to be.
I had gallbladder surgery only 2 1/2 months ago, and missed a ton of work. Then this PCOS stuff went through the roof, so I missed a lot from that too. My boss has been Sooooooo patient, but she may loose it if I miss more days. Grrrrr health issues are a pain in the pa-toot!

I can SO relate! I had to have surgery in May and missed a 4 or 5 days due to that and all the tests before it. Medical/health issues are a such a pain in the ass when you have a FT job. Oh and I work the same hrs as you Luckily I think my boss is pretty understanding and knows health comes first.

Default Not as bad as I feared...

My doctor started me on 1000mg a day. After reading the posts, I was worried about side effects, but after 5 days, I seem to be doing okay. I'm mostly tired. I take 500mg separately at lunch and dinner, and I drink A LOT of water. I had some wine to see what would happen, and nada! It makes me wonder if it's working...

Awesome that you're not having problems! I also am on day 3 today! My gyno told me "Don't be scared of it, it's worth it!" So even though I've had a bit of heart burn and a couple annoying trips to the potty! I'm pressing through it. I know it's going to be great! Good luck, we're all in this together!

Oh, and btw, TOTALLY lost 7 pounds already

Metformin Day 13.
Well, as the days have gone on and as I upped from 500mg to 100mg I have felt a bit more sick. (especially today, I am so tired, and I am so sick of running to the bathroom) I have had nausea and diarrhea every morning till about 11am. I still do not think it is anywhere as bad as it could be, so I am happy about that. Plus I have lost 7 1/2 pounds. No I am not sure if it is the Met, the Herbalife diet shakes and healthy eating, or the fact the I have this chronic diarrhea that has caused the weight loss. I know I am full after only a few bites of food now. and I don't have ANY desire for greasy, fatty foods (icky). Chocolates is still hard to resist, but what can I say, it's a woman thing. LOL

^^^It really is crazy how you don't have any desire for greasy foods anymore. I practically can't find anything that I AM interested in eating these days....I am up to 1500 mg now.

hello, I am new to this website, but not new to PCOS and metformin. I was diagnosed around 1999 (somewhere in there) I was on metformin when I was diagnosed but got very fustrated with it. I gave up. Now that I am older I regret doing that. I had no symptoms back then. I tried it one other time as well but I couldn't get passed the headaches, so again I quit. I was chosen to be a birth parent in Nov. 06. was even there for her birth...(little girl 5.6lbs) She was beautiful. BUT on Jan. 15th 07 the birthmom changed her mind. This was so devistating. Still is. Since that day I have been doing a lot of soul searching and wondering what I am doing with my life. SO I went back to my Dr. and she started me on 1000mg of met and to slowly go up to 2000mg. I started almost 2 weeks ago. I had really BAD side effects this time around. I went to the washroom SEVERAL times a day. I was sick one night, I have MASSIVE headaches, and even had 2 nose bleeds. I have been symptom free except for the headache for about 4 days. I will start the 1500mg of met very shortly. I do not have a period so I take provera. On my 3rd cycle of provera, I will take 1000mg of clomid. I have taken clomid b4 I was diagnosed with PCOS but no luck. with the metformin, I am hoping for a positive result. I heard the two drugs mixed together work well. I am very overweight but I have started to diet and ride my bike and have lost 3 pounds...It is not much but it is a start. Diet is going well, I just can't seem to drop my carbs out completely. I like them too much. sorry for the long reply. If you would like to know more, just ask, I am very open.

I finally started my final upped dosage of Met last night. I am now taking 1500mg each night with dinner. I really do not feel well this morning. Sick at both ends.
I am at work non the less, and trying to keep to a semi normal days schedule. On the really plus side I have dropped another 3lbs. That make for 10 in the last week and a half. Hooray!
Hey, thank you everyone for your support. It is so nice to check everyday and know at least someone knows what I am going through.
