Default Day By Day

I just started Metformin yesterday (October 16th)

My Symptoms: Severe huritism, abdominal pain, acne, excessive weight

My Dosage: 500mg twice daily.

Day 1: Slight stomach upset
Day 2: Headache (centralized in a small area on the right side of the head)

I'm debating whether or not to continue taking it, I've never once in my life had a headache, and any side effect whatsoever outweighs the benefit of the drug in my opinion. I'm going to give Metformin 3 months, and if I don't notice a drastic change in at least one of my symptoms, I'm going to stop taking all medication and go the natural route and depend on diet and exercise along with vitamins and herbs alone. I will continue to track my side effects in this thread for anyone that is considering Met as a treatment option.

Wish me luck!

I know it's very common for symptoms to lessen eventually...I know mine did. I also got a few headaches when I first started but I don't anymore. I also had some cramps right away too. I've been on it for about 2.5 months now. My Dr. started me out on a lower dosage of 500mg once a day, then twice a day, and now 4 times a day. I have heard symptoms can be a little worse if you start at a high dose right away. The only symptom that I still have is diarrhea but it's not too bad. It usually hits me once a day around mid-morning/lunch time. Sorry...tmi! It has also decreased my appetite and somedays I have to remind myself to eat. But I have been able to lose 15lbs. without exercising yet...I've been meaning to start soon. I'm sure you'll be able to notice some positive changes during the next 3 months! Good luck!
