JenSlayton, I am currently breastfeeding my son and before starting the dci I contacted ChiralBalance to ask if it's safe for b'feeding. They wrote back regarding breastfeeding and pregnancy and I'm posting their letter below:
Hi Ms. Boyd,
Because D-chiro-inositol (DCI) is a natural human metabolite (as opposed to a drug or herb), and because it is water soluble, meaning you excrete what you don't use, DCI can be expected to be just as safe for you and your baby as similar metabolites, for instance viramin C or the B8 (to which DCI is cosely related). Taking DCI in reasonable amounts, like 600-1200 mg daily, should be fine.
That being said, we suggest you print out our Doctor's Pamphlet and share that information with your physician to get her/his opinion before making a final decision on whether DCI is right for you.
Also, I don't know whether any of our current customers take or have taken DCI while breastfeeding, I know several have taken it during pregnancy. Some of them can be contacted by way of discussion forums on websites like soulcysters.com.
Sincerely,
Travis H Johnson

DCI would most likely be safe because any other B vitamin is safe during pregnancy, I took high doses of other B vitamins in my previous pregnancy and my baby is very healthy, smart, and her development is top notch.

I just received my DCI two days ago and with it there was an info card stating:
"Why did Chiral Balance recently reduce the price of D-chiro-inositol?"
"Chiral Balance reduced the price of our D-chiro-inositol for many reasons. First and foremost, Chiral Balance believes our DCI should be affordable and available to our community. We worked with our manufaturer to reduce the price of production and we passed that savings along to our customers. The new pricing was so popular we've decided to permanently keep the reduced rates."
It will be even better if they can continue to reduce the price over time. I'm sure hoping to see results with this since Met didn't seem to do anything for me.

Today it's been 3 weeks since I started taking the DCI... and still no improvement for any of my symptoms.
I had my hopes up when I ordered it, but now I fear that this is going to be the same as with all the things I've tried before (Vitex, Metformin, EPO, Estrosense, progesterone cream, etc.). I've wasted so much money on pills and creams that have donde absolutely nothing to relieve my pcos symptoms. I feel really frustrated... I dont know if I should order a refill for the next month...
I understand your discouragement with DCI, but be sure to give it a fair chance. The website says 6-8 weeks, but I read a girl's post on Soulcysters that said it took longer than 8 weeks for her to get a period on DCI, and then she got regular AF's every 30 days after that as long as she was on DCI. (I think she participated in the clinical study of PCOS and DCI)
The decision is up to you of course, and I read that DCI will not work for every PCOS women, but for a large percentage it will work. (19 out of 22 women ovulated) So there is always going to be those few that it wont work for.

Great posts. I've made the muffins before but feel like I have to eat them all day every day to get the benefits. I'm considering order the pills. Have any of you taken DCI while on Met and Clomid? I'm wondering if I'm going overboard.
Just got my DCI in the mail. I took 2 capsules pretty quick. I am sooo excited about this, cant wait to see what it will do, I am feeling positive about it.
Atheletic Cyster-- I listend to a podcast about Chiral Balance DCI and they said that D-chiro Inositol is safe to take with Metformin or any other thing like that........like NAC, cinnamon, ect, any drug, medicine, or natural remedy. Because its a vitamin!!!!

I want to give this a try, but it's too pricey for me right now. I did find two studies online that show that regular inositol has similar effects, so I'm going to try that first, I think. If I don't get results, I'll try the high-octane stuff! Worth a shot, anyway!
Self, it took Metformin three months to make a difference for me (I'm off of that now). DCI seems to work the same way, so I'd give it at least that long before giving up. I hope you see results very soon. Oh - and FTR, I took Metformin throughout my last pregnancy with NO ill effects on me or baby...I even BF on it! If that's safe, then DCI has to be, too.

Hi Ladies - glad to see so many post - when I first posted I had just started the DCI - I still love it - I also have made a lot of changes in my diet - I don't say I can't have something (because when we say that then we want it right) I have notices that carbs are not really my friend, and before I just wanted to eat carbs - I think that the PCOS does so much damage to our bodies that it can take a while to get results. Also PCOS if we don't fight it every minute of every day it seems like it over comes our bodies - I to have tried so many things to battle this monster that It is easy to give up. Most of the time I try something new and my first thought is maybe this will help me have a baby or a normal period. Although those are just two things that PCOS takes away from us. So for the past 15 years of my life I just focused on those two things. Slowly new things started to happen to my body the hair, weight gain (even though I exercise and eat well) then the past 4 years I started to just hurt and being tired all the time - When I first read about DCI I just wanted to take it in the hopes that I would not hurt - that I could get through the day and feel normal - Within the first days Wow I felt great - I still feel great (but want to feel even better)- I have been tired the past couple of days, but I think AF may be trying to come. So to all my PCOS cysters - don't give up, all the natural things that we take maybe helping your body more then you know. I think when I took things like Vitex that the Vitex kept other PCOS symptoms at bay. So with all that we all will keep fighting and don't give up. Also I did a test with the beat juice and it really was helping then I did not take it for 4 days and yep the overy pain came back- I took it last night and today and it seems that tonight I don't have as much pain there.
GOOD LUCK
VivC- I did try Myo-Inositol (regular inositol) before I started DCI, and I did notice positve changes. Maybe if I would have stayed on it long enough, I would have ovulated, I dont know? I took 1500 mg Inositol/ 1500 mg Choline combo. One thing it DID do for me was helped my depression alot. I went off of the Myo-Inositol/Choline for a few days and felt horrible. I went back on it and started singing as I went about my daily work. If this DCI is not enough to keep my moods up, I will take DCI along with the Myo-Inositol/Choline I was taking before. I got to keep feeling happy, because I do not like depression drugs!
Reags-That is so great that DCI is helping you so much. I am on my second day of it. I even had a dream about it last night!! I am going to try to take it each morning after I get up with lots of water, no food. How do you take it?
AFM- I think its great that Chiral Balance lowered the price, and I heard on the Podcast they may lower it again in December. If I can save up enough money to buy 4 bottles at a time, and use a coupon code on it, It really would help the price too.
They say to give DCI, 6-8 weeks, My personal belief is that a person needs to give it 3-6 months. Metformin can work for UP to 95% of women who take it for 6 months, comparing Met and DCI both do the same thing in a different way. I am trying to make a commitment to try it for at least 3 months, and then see if its helping me. DCI seems to be something that is safe to take for a very very long time, as it is a B vitamin (water soulable)
herbsgirl - thanks for posting the testimonial. I always like reading them.
I also took myo-inositol before getting pregnant with my son. It did help with mood a lot. My cycle at the time was already well regulated from taking vitex for several years pretty consistantly. The problem with myo inositol that I've read is that it isn't readily converted into d-chiro-inositol in the body for many women with PCOS. But it did seem to be helpful in conjunction with other supplements when I took it.
I've now been DCI for 3 weeks consistantly at 1200mg. I have continued to have much more energy and feel like it has helped my fertility. This last month I had lots more EWCM and ovulated a couple of days earlier CD19 vs CD21/22. I got a positive HPT with very faint line, but then it was neg. a few days later. So I think I was breifly preggo but it didn't take AF came yesterday a week late.
