Hi KrissKross

Chiral Balance (one of the makers of dci pills) recommends taking the dci in the morning, with water, before having breakfast.

Hope this helps

What is the difference between DCI and inositol? Should they be taken together or one or the other?

I took metformin for 2 months to conceive my second son, William who is 2 and 1/2 and 8 months to conceive 3rd child my daughter Briahnna 1 year. I took it during my whole pregnancy with both and breastfeeding as well. It wasn't around with my first son Shawn as he is 16 1/2 now. I have recently stopped taking it. 2 months after I had William I had my gall bladder taken out, I have also wondered if other pcos women have had that as well, anyway since then metformin has made me have severe bowel trouble after my daughter especially. I feel much better after stopping it but would not change taking it to conceive. We tried 12 years without metformin to have a child and metformin was a miracle for us. I cannot take it anymore though, but my pcos symtoms have returned, acne, hair growth in bad places, more weight gain. So, with all of the encouraging info on DCI, I plan to take it, when I can get the money.
Thanks for all the info.

I had to stop Femaprin for now, I was having major depression issues, so I decided to go off of it for now. It is still a great supplement. In the clinical trials with DCI and PCOS, They told the women to take the DCI with a (large?)glass of water after getting out of bed at least 1 hour before eating breakfast.

I take My DCI, with a large glass of water usually, after I get up before breakfast. I just like to do it the way they did it in the study.

Fianatds---
the difference between regular Inositol and D-chiro Inositol...some quotes...

also there is a video on this page to watch and it explains some too.

Quote from Chiralbalance.com
What is "inositol" and how is Chiral Balance D-chiro-inositol different?
The word "inositol" most commonly refers to a family of closely related substances, and often refers to the most abundant members of that family, such as pinitol. D-chiro-inositol is a very special member of that family. The body uses it when responding to insulin and it isn't abundant in most people's diets, so the body has to make it. Some people's bodies aren't efficient at making D-chiro-inositol and they can develop symptoms of insulin resistance and Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS).

Quote from Chiralbalance.com
Inositol is cheaper. Is inositol the same as D-chiro-inositol?

Inositol most commonly refers to the family of vitamins to which D-chiro-inositol belongs, but the term does not refer to a particular member within the family of vitamins. D-chiro-inositol is a very special member of the inositol family of vitamins. Some people might not efficiently convert common inositols (such as pinitol and myo-inositol) into D-chiro-inositol.

There is a chance I will take both Inositol and D-Chiro Inositol, I dont know yet. I am trying to give DCI a chance without the other inositol, for a few days/ week(s) and see how my mood is. I have been short with my family scince I quit the Inositol/Choline combo and went on DCI a few days ago.... so ?? I may have to take both!

Here is what I was taking....6 a day for Myo-Inositol

Reags - Thanks. Maybe you will end up with a positive in a few days if AF doesn't show. Are you still taking the beet/molasses combo too?

herbsgirl - Great info! It's nice to see such a clear answer of how inositol and dci are different.

Natbean - I am still doing the Beet Juice - I went off of it and the pain came back now been on it again since thursday night and have noticed today that there is no pain and no back pain. - I think I may test in a couple of days I think when I tested I was day 26, but I can make myself crazy with wanting a baby so I stoped taking records of everything - Maybe I should start again. Have you thought about starting the Beet Juice?? How long have you been TTC with your 2 child?

We've been ttc #2 for 6 months now. With the first one I spent about 4 years focused on just trying to get healthy, so that I'd be able to sustain a pregnancy and conceive. I know it's hard when you want to have a baby so badly. It's best not to test too much it does kind of drive you crazy. I will have to stop doing that myself.

I'm happy the beet juice is combating the pain you've been having, that is so great!

I started exercising 3 days ago, this is my 4th day of DCI and I am spotting! I stopped progesterone 5 days ago and never got AF, could that be from the Prog, or from DCI and exercise?

Probably from the withdrawal from progesterone. That's what brings AF on is the sudden decrease in progesterone. I'm sure your hormones are starting to readjust too with dci.

Herbsgirl - with the comment of you being short with the family - When I started the DCI I think I was short to- that has gone away - I think it was because the DCI changing me in a good way,, but it a crazy way to (hope that makes sense) - I had af come about a week after I had started the DCI - I had some brown blood today so I think AF is getting ready - So having 2 AF in a row is a WOW - Well I do have some inositol I may take that to maybe.

Natbean - I understand about the Prego test - after Lorna died I just wanted another child - I did so many things like we all have done - with no periods we never know if we maybe Prego. I was doing test every week this went on for 6 years - then this past year I just decided to let it go. I only test now if I think I maybe in a situation where I may over do it.
I feel now I am getting some place with my body - thanks to this DCI

Thumbs up Had a long conversation with ChiroBalance people yesterday

I had alot of questions and got them all answered expecially about interactions with other things I am taking. I ended up talking with the founder who is a biochemist. I was very happily impressed with the depth of information in the answers I got.

#1 DCI is working for about 75%+ of those who take it. The best indicators if it will work for you are: you have IR, you are overweight and a diet that does not restrict carbs such as weight watchers, jenny craig, etc. DOESNT work well for you, If low carb diets seem to have some effect. Some of the 25% of those that it doesnt always work for are those who may have "lean PCOS" (it can work but doesnt always, or the results arent as dramatic). The rest he speculates are not taking it correctly or consistantly (skipped doses, wrong time of day, etc)

#2 you can stay on metformin while taking DCI, they will not counteract or cause issues if taken together. (I take 1500mg/day, extended release)

#3 Cinnamon and Chromium Pic. still ok to take and infact its a good idea. (I take 2 cinnamax capsules a day which has both)

#4 Saw Palmetto is ok as far as he knows (1 take one gel cap a day 160mg)

#5 Vitex/Femaprin is ok to take while on this (1 take 1 capsule/day)

#6 Take in the am with water, wait 30 minutes before eating at least

#7 Continue to restrict Carbs. I am restricting to between 30-50/day but not attempting to induce ketosis

#8 Excercise is a good thing

#9 If you are taking Spironolactone (Aldactone, Spiritone), check with your Doctor first or you can drop your androgen levels to low. Because D-Chiro lowers androgens as does Spiro you may not want to take them both.

#10 it is VERY important not to miss a day and to take it at the same time daily (basically as soon as you wake up)

#11 D-Chiro-Inositol is NOT the same as Myo-inositol (this is the standard inositol that you can get at health food stores and GNC), Myo inositol is made into DCI and part of the issue with people with IR/PCOS/Type 2 Diabetes is that we are not converting enough of it or not converting it properly. Tests show that the amount of D-chiro present for those in the catagories listed above is EIGHT times LOWER than those who are in the normal range. So you can dump more myo-inositol in your system but its already very prevelant in a diet that includes fruits and vegatables.

#12 D-Pinitol is not as effective and is easy to obtain from citrus and legumes in the diet and is converted into DCI. The conversion process seems to be where the issue is so its better to just take the DCI. Again you can take both if you want.

Also some notes: take a good multi and a calcium with D in it as well (I usually wait until ive eaten to take everything, but I will now take the D-chiro on empty stomach, wait 30 minutes, eat breakfast, then take everything else to avoid an upset stomach.

Ive probably just reiterated a bunch of stuff other people have already said in this thread but wanted to post it as I heard it!
