If this opinion was the case, then women with PCOS might as well take insulin to lower their sugar and reduce their insulin....
You have made a totally inaccurate assumption
this is because, it does not act like excess insulin on the ovaries. It does not increase tesosterone, it does not insulin resistance, it decreases it (insulin creates further insulin resistance as the cells try to shield themselves from further insulin assult)
Let me prove myself by way of medical findings:
Bitter melon contains a lectin that has insulin-like activity. The insulin-like bioactivity of this lectin is due to its linking together 2 insulin receptors. This lectin lowers blood glucose concentrations by acting on peripheral tissues and, similar to insulin's effects in the brain, suppressing appetite BUT it does not increase insulin.
So it is the best of both worlds. So studies show that It acts like insulin for decreasing blood sugar and hormones but it does not act like insulin on the ovaries and therefore does not increase insulin resistance or testosterone.

The wikipedia article that you've quoted does not contain the part about "BUT it does not increase insulin."
Bitter Melon may have additive effects when taken with other drugs whose action is to lower blood glucose levels. Bitter Melon should never be taken in combination with these therapies, especially in addition to insulin.(WHY?)
* Bitter melon traditionally has been used as an abortive and has been documented with weak uterine stimulant activity; therefore, it is contraindicated during pregnancy.
* This plant has been documented to reduce fertility in both males and females and should therefore not be used by those undergoing fertility treatment or seeking pregnancy.
* The active chemicals in bitter melon can be transferred through breast milk; therefore, it is contraindicated in women who are breast feeding.
* All parts of bitter melon (especially the fruit and seed) have demonstrated in numerous in vivo studies that they lower blood sugar levels. As such, it is contraindicated in persons with hypoglycemia. Diabetics should check with their physicians before using this plant and use with caution while monitoring their blood sugar levels regularly as the dosage of insulin medications may need adjusting. (WHY?)
* Although all parts of the plant have demonstrated active antibacterial activity, none have shown activity against fungi or yeast. Long-term use of this plant may result in the die-off of friendly bacteria with resulting opportunistic overgrowth of yeast (Candida). Cycling off the use of the plant (every 21-30 days for one week) may be warranted, and adding probiotics to the diet may be beneficial if this plant is used for longer than 30 days.
Because you are wrong. I am trying to show you where you are wrong but you are constantly trying to disprove me with factless quotes. Let me post yet another study which shows that bitter melon does not increase insulin levels.
If serum insulin is decreased, it means that it does not increase insulin levels. It means that insulin was decreased. JEEZ!
Right? What part of that dont you understand??
The extract was also found to decrease the absorptive capacity of fluid ...melon (Momordica charantia) reduces adiposity, lowers serum insulin*

I added the but myself because I had ALREADY quoted 2 pages of references that showed it does not increase insulin! or have the negative side effects of human insulin.
I didnt want to repost it again and again and undermine your intelligence.
Perhaps you didnt read or you dont care to understand anyway.
The reason bitter melon shouldnt be taken with insulin is that it can cause hypoglycemia as it lowers blood sugar.
Not because it acts like human insulin. I have proved that already in my previous posts of studies. Go back and read it.

and by the way.... the site you got that information from OASIS ADVANCED WELLNESS is neither a medical web site nor a study.....
Please stop finding random quotes from the web and posting them up here as fact. that is dangerous
I always backed up my evidence i presented with study
Im not trying to fight with you, im trying to prove a point because you are mis representing the truth and posting inaccurate things
it is not pointless. I will carry on posting until the truth is put up here. Lets seperate fact from fiction. In this case, comments on the web from medical findings in studies.

For your information I am not going to "go eat bitter melon" I do not eat bitter melon. I have only eaten it twice in my whole life.
So It is not for my benefit I am posting. It is to correct the inaccuracies you have posted.
im going to be simple because I want to be understood.
The study you posted above does not prove what you said in your original post, where you quoted that it may increase testosterone levels and insulin resistance.
AGAIN and for the record, it does not increase insulin resistance or tesosterone levels. It decreases both insulin levels and testosterone. It does not have any negative effects of human insulin on the body or PCOS
That is the point I have been trying to make all along.
Thanks

Hi Pearl, could you post the link to the study on Bitter Melon and PCOS regulating cycles? This could be really good for some Cysters to take Bitter Melon to help regulate periods. I did a search but could not find the study.
Thanks

I got the study from my brothers medical journals, I will try and get him to access them again for me and post them up , or atleast an abstract.
how are you on DCI
I found DCI to be fantastic but too expensive to continue as a life long treatment as the UK was adding £80 in tax on top! I found cinnamon to be nearly as good with the added benefit of cycle regularity. DCI was excellent for depression though. Regular Inositol isnt as good but it is better than most for my depression...

Thanks Pearl! That would be great to be able to read more about that study.
The DCI is really good for me right now! The cinnamon caused me acid reflux and/or heartburn, but it worked soo well for cravings and made my appetite go down. My body is very sensitive to herbs I have found. I really like the cinnamon for the dieting part, though. \
The DCI is helping me alot. I havent ovulated yet, but I keep having signs of it! I think the DCI has helped my cravings too, and my mood is better, I am singing as I go about my daily work! My facial skin seems softer too.
