Most insurance companies still claim they do not cover preexisting conditions because they haven't updated their policies, and they don't want you to know they have to. but it IS law...as long as you've been covered previously up to the new coverage by ANY other company they HAVE to cover it. You can double check with the insurance rep at your school but I'm sure that's how it works. Like I said, I've been insurance hopping so I've learned a lot. Good luck-don't let the companies mislead you.

I too have the same problem. My hubbys employer does not offer health insurance so I tried to get on state paid health insurance but my husband makes too much money for that. However, I am entitled to Uncompensated Care Pool (basicly its free care). Granted I have to go to a clinic that will accept this and I was really not interested until I for my first visit. They are accepting my free care and doing all my blood work for free. I will have to pay for certain thing like the ultrasound they sent me for (I had to go to the hospital for that) but I made a payment arrangement for $5 per month. That is what the nurse at the free care clinic told me to do. She suggested the $5 per month because if they have to send me for other things that are not covered by their clinic then there goes another $5per month for a total of $10 per month. If I had said $20 per month they would expect that for everything I had to have done and then I would not be able to afford it. So my suggestion to you is to call your local state health office and apply for state paid insurance and see what they say. If they tell you no then ask about free care.

Good luck to you. I hope everything works out for you..

(((HUGS)

I forgot to mention...About the prescriptions...Call the maker of the medication you have to be on, sometimes they will either lower the cost or they will give it to you for free.

Also you can call 1-888-4PPANOW...This is for help with prescription drugs.

GOOD LUCK

JULIE
