However, he was laid off from his job several months ago and our health insurance will end in Oct. I was diagnosed with PCOS back in June '06 but come Oct, I don't know what I'm going to do without insurance! I'm supposed to get bloodwork done in a couple of months to see if Met is okay for me, but without insurance that is pretty much impossible. Not to mention affording three prescriptions, office visits, etc. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions, or does anyone have the same problem? Thanks! |

I am not sure how to handle this situation either so I can't really offer advice, but I do understand. |

I was so excited to finally find a Dr who was willing to do the tests & get me going on the meds...However, I'm discouraged at the cost of everything....
It seems like insurance companies consider this cosmetic & not a real health risk.... |

I would love to be able to have Met and Spiro but until I can get back to work and get insurance, it's just too much to pay for out of pocket or by putting me on my DF's policy. I hope you find something that works for you, maybe paying for a policy out of pocket, like Anthem or something. I think they said they have plans starting at like $70 a month, if that's something that could work for you. Best of luck, cyster. I understand your struggle.

Something you can do is make sure you are eating right and excercising, those things don't have to cost you extra money and you need to be doing them anyway, even with meds. On the natural side, there is a lot of evidence suggesting eating cinnamon every day regulates insulin - 1/2 tsp. This seems to be working for me, I don't think it would hurt to try until you can get things figured out
Do you read Shape magazine? There is an article in there on a diet for diabetes that mentions cinnamon and some other helpful things. It is the one with Fergie on the cover, October 2006. There is also a small article on PCOS and how one woman is combating it. Hope that helps!

I had everything from migraines to vomiting to constant bleeding for 3 months. Now I am without insurence and not on anything for 6 months now. So I know where your at. I cant get BCP or blood work and I hadnt even started Met yet. We were going to try that next.
~hugs to you~
Have faith we will get the help we need someday! |

Blood labs on the other hand are a little bit trickier. But for the most part the price your insurance pays is waaay more jacked up than what you might pay w/o insurance. I think you should definately talk to your Dr. and see what they can work out with you. Good Luck! |

Points: 2,260.37 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 2,260.37 | hello-I was going to suggest what someone else did about the health insurance thru your university. I know at mine it's about $1000 for the year, which sounds like a lot but its still much less than any other company, and as long as you have your care done at the university health center you get 100% coverage for most things. Plus you can get loans to cover it. I'd check into it soon tho-I know the program at my university has enrollment 'periods' that coincide to the semester schedule-so if you miss it you have to wait until the next period comes around. If your college doesn't have a plan like this, or if you missed enrollment, the American college Student Association ( www.asca.com) has a student policy any student at any institution can get, and I think it's less of a rip off than some of the student plans out there you'll pull up if you just google student insurance. I had it for a few months. The coverage isn't as good but if you brought a copy of coverage info to your dr maybe they could work with billing to get as much covered as possible. If you're going to try to stay insured I suggest you make sure there is no gap between the old and new plans-there is new legislation in the US that any preexisting illness has to be covered as long as you've been insured continuosly. If you let it lapse and THEN get a new company they probably won't cover your pcos as a preexisting condition for at least the first 6 months. Good luck-I've been juggling insurance companies for a while and it's a huge pain in the butt. |

Or what I've had to do is work out deals with your dr's labs usually if you leave something every time they'll work it out with you. Their are times I only leave $5 they'll work with you
